After a good night sleep and huge breakfast, we finally say goodbye to our host, mr. Travolta and move on south. This afternoon it's just a short hop to Orlando Executive KORL, where we have to refuel. After the take-off... ... we turn around an make one last pass over the estate as thank for a wonderfull stay. Note the Gulfstream. Setting course for Orlando. This is near 'Woods and Lakes Airpark' and Halford Lake. Bit hazy here at 4000 ft. We keep landing lights on, just in case. Overhead Sanford, in the distance Lake Jessup... aligators! Downwind rwy 07... "Gear down!" ...and turning final over the city. Parked at Executive.

My goodness. Having flown out of Herndon many times, your approach shots sure brought memories. Excellent angles, good lighting, nice theme. And I recall somewhere seeing a Connie with the blue TWA stripe--was it FLL?

Well, almost a TWA stripe : This is L-049 N90816, eventually broken up at KFLL in 1990 after years of "storage"...

Thats the one, for sure. I was working for an airline at FLL, and rode past her at least twice a day. If I recall correctly, there was a big to-do over the scrapping, as a little guy got trampled by the airport authority for some nonsensequental project designed to line the pockets of the city big-wigs. Sad to see such things happening, but thats Florida politics.
