How great! As a native Atlantan, I really appreciate that you posted these. I also love that the postcard brags on 28 flights a day...Delta has at least a 1000 flights a day from Atlanta now! :0
Im 48 years old and worked at ATL in 1979 as a summer intern for Delta loading airplanes that summer. (very, very, very hot). It was the last summer of the old Atlanta Hartsfield airport before openning the "midfield terminal" which is the core of Hartsfield Jackson Intl today.
I recall taking a baggage tug and driving all over that airport for fun. Delta handled the ground operations for British Caledonian and other airlines as well. So we saw 707's as well as the first L-1011's, DC-8's DC-9's etc. Republic was flying in with baby DC-9's and Convair 580's. Eastern of course had their full compliment flying.
That was a good summer. I also remember airborne crashed a caravelle in ATL that summer. It sat between runways for a long time. DHL bought Airborne in the early 2000's and I have a lot of colleagues who are still former Airborne.

"A Dream Takes Flight" is a great book about ATL. It's out of print now but I found one on Amazon. I work quite a bit at the home offices and park by Hangar 2, just so I can walk through the museum on the way to the simulators. It's amazing to look at an aerial photo or map of Atlanta Municipal superimposed over the airport today. Delta Blvd is there in the old pictures as it is today, and the trees are much bigger now. But Hangar 1 and 2 are almost the way they were in the 1940s. The airport is still growing--the new Terminal F is coming along rapidly, TWY L has been extended all the way east and RWY10-28 has added capacity and taxi time (after all, we gat apid by the minute!

Yeah as a passenger I hate that 10/28 runway because it takes 15 minutes to taxi to the gate!

I don't mind 10/28 so much. Paid by the hour! ;D The only part I don't like is having to cross 9L/27R and 9R/27L during rush hour. I feel like Frogger!
