In the L-1049G FSAviator FS2004 flight model update file I have now included an aircraft.cfg file for the Alphasim model. This is an ALPHA test - I have not tested it in any way. Please back up your L-1049G cfg file first! I will test this later, probably in a week or so.

I love alphasim's newer work, I have all of their civilian payware add-ons, and highly recommend them. Absolutely fantastic modeling. As for the now freeware Connie, well, one gets what one pays for I shall stick with the beautiful FSDZign Connie, which is also free, but a true labor of love.

Many thanks for the tip-off. Not so much for the Connie (I like 'em, but can't fly 'em well enough), but the Swift, Belfast, and Beaufort will come in very handy. I think the Badger might turn up as an occasional AI intruder down the North Sea, too.

Echoing thanks for the heads up. My Connie fleet is fine but I did bag a Badger to add to my Cold War bomber collection.

Hi,
thanks for the head-up, Tom.
I just had a quick look at the lot, but the Connie is not very likely to stay on my disc, I'm afraid. It was only a short look and I might have missed something in the installation, even though I don't think so.
It is ok-ish in respect to the visual model, but the flight enviroment needs more than just a quick fix. The VC places tghe pilots chin right on the dashboard, without any gauges in sight. Of the gauges available, I did not see any MAP gauges.
All of this is fixable, but it is not merely minor surgery.
Oh, and Lufthansa never had L-1049C's.
All in all, I am glad I did not buy it when it was still payware.
Best gegards, Volker

Of the gauges available, I did not see any MAP gauges. While I can't comment on the MAP gauge, the VC view is correct for a person really sitting in the seat of the Connie (and most other airplanes). And? They were asked to do that livery when it was originally released and they catered to it. Not that you're fine to have the opinion, but it's one of those things that really makes me aggravated when reading reviews - you don't knock someone, payware or freeware for fulfilling a user request.

While I can't comment on the MAP gauge, the VC view is correct for a person really sitting in the seat of the Connie (and most other airplanes). I agree! So many "Virtual Cockpits" have the eyepoint set far too far back to be at all realistic, in the interests of convenient operation. In the real world you would move your head, or at least your eyes, to read the dials. Which means moving the screen view . . . I will say that in all honesty if I had paid for this product I would have been a bit disappointed with some of its features but as it is now being generously offered for free I see no reason to complain. Things like the eyepoint, the flight dynamics, the panel and (not yet mentioned) the nosewheel sunk into the ground and the main gear hovering above (on the 049) can all be modified to suit individual preference with a little patience. Hi,
don't get me wrong, please. I am grateful to Alphasim for releasing their old products as freeware instead of just taking them off the shelves and letting them disappear.
I am very well aware that this is currently the only Constellation pack with a VC available as freeware and Alphasim deserves praise for this.
However, I am a bit disappointed with the overall quality. I would have been really disappointed if I had paid for it. I don't think that it is a milestone product.
As far as the VC eyepoint is concerned, I see your point. I believe that some compromise has to be found between pure 'realistic' and rather 'functional' settings, but that is my personal opinion.
I don't want to be nagging about something that I got for free, but I didn't want to give it uncritical praise either.
Best regards, Volker

Hi,
I believe they used the L-1049C model for the Lufthansa paint because it has a non radar nose, like the LH 1049G's. This makes it closer visually than would using the radar equipped 1049G model.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
yes, it's mislabelled, that's all. 'Super Gs' were built with and without tip tanks as well as with and without weather radar. The main difference are different payload limits; externally, there are only very subtle differences.
Actually, the extra visual model is an advantage. Most Constellations were built without weather radar anyway, and this model would cover QANTAS' large L1049C/E fleet, for example.
Best regards, Volker

The AlphaSim Connies were some of the first payware that I bought although they've ended up being used for AI over the years. In particular, the Navy WV-1 Warning Star. I did use some of the others for a while until I found better subjects for AI use.
Keep in mind that these date from the early days of FS2004. There's been a lot of water under the bridge since then.
