I have been busy updating the Fairchild F-27 and FH-227 panels to Version 6 standard and wondered if any of you guys would like to try it first before general release. Hopefully this isn't a Beta but it would be an opportunity for me to correct any niggles before it goes worldwide. The self installer is a complete aircraft package for both models. New features: •New high resolution gauges and switch panels. 99% of the gauges have been redrawn to a high standard for extra clarity. •New ‘Zoom’ view. A close-up view of the flight and main engine instruments. The aircraft is fully flyable from this view. •New night lighting effects. Instruments and switch panels may be optionally lit by bridge and pillar lamps or backlighters. •Working APU added. Fully operational for use on the ground and in the air if necessary. •Working Ground Power Unit. Available on the ground, the GPU will power the electrical system without battery depletion. •New internal engine sound pack, with APU and GPU sounds. •New Collins Flight Director System. •Improvements in systems accuracy. •Engine parameters individual to aircraft type. •New cockpit sounds. •New textures included and available separately. The link is here: F-27 FH-227 V6Please do not redistribute. Best regards Fraser

Looks very nice Fraser, thanks.
Note that this panel will not work properly with the FSAviator F-27 flight dynamics; use the supplied FD.

Hi all I've played a bit so far and everything looks pretty good. Not sure where to locate the prop sync detailed in the check list. As always help appreciated. Thanks Warren

The synchroniser is operated by the red guarded switch on the quadrant.

Thanks Fraser Having a lot of fun. I worked with the F-227s when Mohawk operated them so it makes this airplane all the more enjoyable. Great work!

Nicely Done Fraser ! Flys well, functions well. The new gauges have a more "authentic" look to them. I also really like the new fuel trim computer. The disappearing icon panel is nice too.
Had big trouble with navigation until I realized that you'd moved both VOR receivers to the same side of the radio panel. Have some automatic habits to retrain!
I would like to see the NAV 1/NAV 2 select switch for the HSI back on the main panel as before. It is awkward to have to bring up the radio panel when in the middle of an approach. In a real aircraft, we'd just reach up and flip it without looking.

Outstanding work Fraser, panel is great !, but the Mike Stone 3D model is just awful, nose wheel position and fuselage shape is way off, with this panel it has so much potential, wish someone one day will be able to fix it. As for any issues, the Piedmont paint isn't right around the nose and over the cockpit windows, other than that it looks pretty good.

So far I have only had one incident. I took off from KROA in the Piedmont for a short hop up to KBWI. All went well until just past Front Royal. On the approach to BWI the system suddenly froze up. Nothing would work. I could not even kill the program with Control Alt Delete. I had to manually turn off the computer to get the flight off the screen.
Gotta look in to this.

Hi guys, Thanks for the comments. You can toggle between VOR1 and VOR2 by clicking the course window on the CI I spent almost a day trying to get the spike above the cockpit on Piedmont right, and have come to the conclusion that it's not possible due to the texture mapping. I considered leaving it out all together. Anyone who can make it work is very welcome to try. I agree that Mike's model is less than perfect, but in my opinion it's the best on offer at the moment and looks much better in the air than on the ground due to the much undersized landing gear. Can't explain the PC crash I'm afraid, it's been exhaustively tested on a variety of routes with no problems whatsoever. cheers Fraser

Been a huge fan of the Friendship since I was a boy growing up in New England and flying on Pilgrim Airlines. Also watched a privately owned F-27 owned by the late millionaire John Hay "Jock" Whitney come in and out of tiny Elizabeth field on Fishers Island NY and did my own paint (using FS Paint) of this plane. Try this airport out - 0B8 - in FS in the F27 or even a B200 King Air - it is a challenge.
Fraser - your work is so good I forget about the fact that the plane doesn't have a VC and Mike's model is now a bit old - keep up the good work!

Hi,
It is certainly a wonderful panel, so Thank You Fraser.
As I wouldn't know an accurate model from a dodgy one I have no intention of criticising Mike Stone's effort to model the F-27..in fact I think it looks OK and it's a great shame he decided not to bother any more with Flight Sim modelling.
Andy.

Thanks Fraser, Well Done! Thanks too for including the old Horizon "Meatball" paint. With our Horizon identity slipping away, it's nice to have a little piece of history preserved. Thanks again, Stef

Hello Fraser,
To follow up on Jesse's problem earlier, flying Horizon on coupled ILS into KACV, in thick fog, everything froze up at about 1500 feet. Sound continued, but aircraft was just frozen in place. Maybe it was reminding me that the real acft had a very simple AP and probably could not have flown an approach on AP.
Otherwise a very fine model. which I'm enjoying very much. Any chance of an F-27 like the early ones with 511 or 514 Rda 6 engines? While I'm asking, a flight director in the "crossed bars" format would be nice.
I'm mostly flying West Coast, Aloha and Pacific routes that were among the early F-27 deliveries. By the way, Aloha was cheap, no autopilots and the radar was removed upon delivery and placed into storage to reduce maintenance expenses!

That is pretty cheap! I wonder how much flying (and revenue) was lost due to pilots refusing to fly in bad weather because of no radar.
