Uploaded NWA textures today for ALPHASIM freeware Connie. This is minus tip tanks due to the fact that I had to use the 1049C model with no radar. Hope you like it!

Hi,
Thanks!
I have a shot of an NWA Super Connie without tip tanks. They were removable, and were often removed when operating on domestic segments. While they were used on the Pacific routes when delivered (and through at least 1956), after the delivery of the DC-7C's they apparently drifted to domestic routes and were off the timetable by 1958 - an early purging for Connies. But these were orphans in an otherwise Douglas and Boeing shop.
Interestingly a similar thing happened in the jet era. NWA originally bought DC-8's for their long range routes, but after buying (and apparently liking) 720's they bought nothing but Boeing after that, and got rid of the DC-8's within a few years of delivery, years sooner than virtually anyone else.
Fleet standarization was apparently very important at NWA - note the DC-10-40's they bought with the same engines as on their 747's.
Thanks again,
