Hi all I've been flying (FS9) a bit in the Caribbean (TLPL) and have found that some of the AI aircraft such as the BOAC North Star / DC-4 float slightly above the "maneuvering surface". I ran the "SCANAFD" program and found a duplicate AFCAD which I renamed -- but to no avail. Not a big thing but if anyone knows of an easy fix I would appreciate suggestions. It's been a week or so since I last screwed up the flight sim so I'm quite eager. Thanks Warren

Floating AI are usually the result of a corrupted afcad, or some addon scenery mesh you have installed. Usually it's mesh.
Try disabling any addon mesh you have for that area, and turn off that scenery and see how they are with the default mesh and scenery.
Sometimes AI will sink or "mush" in the ground, I am not sure what causes this or how to remedy it. F-27s are notorious for this.

Hi,
There can be two reasons for this. First is an FS quirk. Next time you see it, try this:
1. Get out of Slew mode if you are in it (press F1 to get onto the ground, then Y). 2. Choose World/Time and Season and then click OK. This will reload the AI Aircraft.
Hopefully they will be sitting on the ground. Now you can go back into Slew Mode (Y) now, if you wish.
Second, there may be a problem with the Contact Points in the plane's aircraft.cfg file. These can be adjusted - let me know if the first one doesn't work.
Hope this helps,

Hi again all I tried suggestion one but no difference. I also observe a slight floating in other non Cal Classic AI aircraft so I'm starting to wonder if it may be related to the add on scenery I'm using. Not a critical issue since otherwise everything works correctly but it would be nice to figure out what's going on. Thanks Warren

Hi,
If you have addon mesh installed, then try to disable it for this region.

Is it at a specific airport where this happens?

Hi, If it is all of the AI aircraft doing it and it is only at this one airport, then it is the addon scenery doing this. There are several things to try: 1. The easiest is to place a *copy* of the airport's AFCAD file (make sure you are choosing the one that is in use) into the FS2004/Scenery/World/scenery folder. This will reset the altitude of the AI aircraft to that used in the AFCAD file. 2. If that doesn't work, try changing the altitudes in the AFCAD file to the altitude of the AI aircraft (i.e. bring the airport up to their level). You will need to change the reference point altitude (right click on an empty area and choose Properties) and each of the runways (right click the runway (not the taxi line) and choose Properties). You'll have to experiment to get the right altitude. 3. If you are using addon mesh, try disabling it. 4. If the error is small, just live with it. Hope this helps,

Hi again all For John so far it seems to be one airport (TLPL) which was included in a large package of southern Caribbean scenery. For Tom I'll have a look at the AFCAD and see if I feel confident enough to "play" with it. The last suggestion may very well be the best. Thats what my wife says and she is usually right -- just ask her. Thanks Warren

Hi,
Try them in the order I listed them. The best solution is usually #1.

Hi all I tried suggestion one but everything I opened look like Northern Pathian script so I tried suggestion 2 and once I figured out which AFCAD was active the problem was cured. May they all be that easy! Thanks Warren

Hi again Thanks for all the help. John -- if you ever feel like trying a Lake Champlain ferry package I would be most happy to fly over and look at them. Thanks and all the best! Warren
