Hi folks, to my surprise I found I had not registered here so - here I am. 'Here' is Adelaide, South Australia, by the way. Been simming a while, first sim for me was FS95, then 98. took a break, got FS2002 then 2004, and don't expect to bother with FSX! I have three FS9 installations, regular, retro thirties and retro sixties (with a couple of years slack at each end!). Working on a small project right now to create some AI traffic for Papua-New Guinea 1960s, right now mainly DC3s (CalClassic model!) and Catalinas; Papuan Air (Patair) TAA Sunbird This involves occasional fiddling, for example Lae's airport then was in the middle of town. I think that's CalClassic traffic parked down there, not one of mine, though I probably edited the ICAO code if you guys hadn't already done so! My question: I implied from reading Tom's hints about backdating airports (which mentioned drawing on objects in the CalClassic libraries) that it's okay to use them in our own sceneries for uploading. Goes without saying that credit would be included. Before I overstep with assumptions, is that so? I am thinking of uploading a period Adelaide YPAD (in the form it was from 1956 to about the end of the sixties) and may do the same for Lae when I get the AI right.

Hi John, Welcome! Your project is looking really good. I assume those aircraft are from the late 1960's? Yes, it's just fine to include objects from CalClassics libraries, with the following requirements: 1. Credit should be given in the text file to the object's author(s). If not specified, the scenery's author(s) should be credited. 2. You should not place (and certainly not rename) the CalClassic library into your scenery. Give the link to download the CalClassic scenery and tell them to install that. The reason for #2 is that MS has warned users that multiple copies of the same library active at the same time might lead to unpredictable behavior, and might make FS unstable. We'll be looking forward to both Adelaide and Lae! I'm used to changing ICAO codes in my AI traffic files. That's one reason I use AI Traffic Mover - makes it easy. Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom! Yes, that all makes sense. I find a few sceneries bloat the download by including the necessary libraries, leading to the problem Microsoft has recognised.
You are right about late 60s. I have a 1966 tourist-guide schedule to work from, which unfortunately is oriented more towards "if you want to go from Mt. Hagen to Goroka" rather than a coherent timetable, so I have had to reconstruct the schedule and work it against the known fleets.
Around 1969 or so there were changes - I think Patair was absorbed into Ansett-MAL and local PNG services shifted even more towards mainland Australian liveries.
Patair made extensive use of Piaggios between smaller airports but sadly, nobody has made an AI model of the aircraft (the one in my screenie above is of course a user aircraft).
I think we had a short email exchange about Haneda not long age. Anyway, I have a week off work coming up in a few days, might see what I can do about those two sceneries. Lae uses regular library objects. For my own Adelaide I used a popular EZ signs library but replaced some signs with retro - I think I will try instead to make my own signage.
I'd like to tackle a custom terminal building. Library objects make a passable one and I have never created an object from scratch. We'll see.
And I need to touch up the Sunbird DC3 paint!

I really look forward to your Papuan AI traffic, I'm soon to embark on an extended island hopping tour of the Pacific and of course Papua New Guinea is on the list of places to go!
I'm currently reading up on use of SBuilder for FS9 as default shoreline scenery leaves a lot to be desired in the islands, and sitting in lectures every day gives me the chance to work on my "tracing" skills.
Scenery building for FSX is just so much more intuitive, sigh.

Hi,
Let us know if you need any help using GMAX (or FSDS) - we have lots of tricks and tips.
Thanks,

Hobofat, a friend is playing with Sbuilder at present, correcting and enhancing Papua-New Guinea's coasts, rivers, lakes and landclass bit by bit. I don't know how ready he is to pass stuff around, but I'll pass on any info here.
Tom, thanks for that, I'll probably need it. I made copies of the tips on Gmax and library objects from the forum here but I have a small suspicion it will become a can of worms!
