Can anyone tell me if there is tutorial regarding sound cfgs? I would like to extend the time it takes before the engines fire up..
Tks, Ron

I'm not sure what you want to do. The sound.cfg file has nothing to do with when the engines fire up (i.e. the smoke and blurred props appear). If you want to make the startup sound come sometime after the visual startup (not sure why), then you need to either edit the wav file of the startup sound to add some silence to the beginning, or add another wav file to the "sound chain" of startup file(s) at the beginning of the chain that is silent. There is no "delay" that you can just set in the cfg file. For example, here is an excerpt of the AFG YS-11 sound.cfg file that I have modified: [SOUND_ENGINE] number_of_engines=2 eng1_combustion=COMBUSTION.1.00 eng2_combustion=COMBUSTION.2.00 eng1_starter=starterA eng2_starter=starterB eng1_shutdown=shutdownA eng2_shutdown=shutdownB eng1_combustion_start=combstartA eng2_combustion_start=combstartB eng1_jet_whine=JET_WHINE.1.00 eng2_jet_whine=JET_WHINE.2.00 [STARTERA] filename=afgys-start1 viewpoint=1 link=starterA.1 [STARTERA.1] filename=afgys-start2 viewpoint=1 link=starterA.2 [STARTERA.2] filename=afgys-xstart1 viewpoint=2 link=starterA.3 [STARTERA.3] filename=afgys-xstart2 viewpoint=2 [STARTERB] filename=afgys-start1 viewpoint=1 link=starterB.1 [STARTERB.1] filename=afgys-start2 viewpoint=1 link=starterB.2 [STARTERB.2] filename=afgys-xstart1 viewpoint=2 link=starterB.3 [STARTERB.3] filename=afgys-xstart2 viewpoint=2 Note how the starter A and B each consist of four links in the chain (two interior (viewpoint = 1) and two exterior (viewpoint = 2)). That's how you would set yours up too. The first files would be silence, and the second files would be your startup sounds. The only discussion I know about is in the Aircraft Container SDK: support.microsoft.com/kb/555857Hope this helps,

Hi Ron To your point of extending the start times I have been looking for a way of increasing the "crank" time to more closely simulate the real world 12 or 15 blade rotation prior to ignition. The bad news is I have yet to achieve any real success. Normally I foul the sound or .cfg up so badly that I need to reload the original. Fun but dangerous as they say. Make back ups before you play as Tom has told me many times. Perhaps one of the more knowledgeable sound engineers out there will have some advice. Warren

I have assigned a keyboard key to each starter because usually cockpit switches are not reliable to stay in the crank position for example when "held" by mouse click.
The next requirement is to adjust the mixture manually from cut-off to a setting that allows combustion. For twins that is easily done with a multi lever setup. But unless you have 12 levers to work with it becomes a bit more of a hassle with more than 2 engines.
Usually if you set the physical levers to full forward and then pull the mixture levers to cut-off on screen they will stay there unless you move the physical levers.
I then push the starter key and after a few seconds advance the on-screen mixture lever for that engine or the assigned key to enrich that engines mixture.

To clarify, I wanted to increase the cranking time before ignition. Looks like Warren is trying to do the same thing. Tom, will changing the snd.cfg file per your example increase this cranking time? I will also try Sunny9850's suggestion...Thanks for all of your prompt replies! Ron

Ron/Warren,
I edit all my aircraft.cfg's to get the "blade count". Just change normalized_starter_torque to a lower figure, for example 0.0125 on the Starliner. The downside is that there is delay whilst the startup sound and effects catch up, which is why the creator tends to ignore blade count in the first place. It's a matter of personal preference. Use any figure less than original until you're happy.

Hi,
No, you need to change the starter torque to do that, as described by Bill.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, Bill...this is just what I was looking for and it works great..I really don't notice a delay of any kind. Thanks again, I appreciated all of the responses to this request for help. Ron.
