Hi Jesse
The F4 refers to the Phantom. I was an ECM repairmen and worked with the c,d,e models. I also spent spent time on the F-105G and A-7D in Korat Thailand. I enjoy reading your posts about your USAF time.
take care

That A7 was one fine bird. I was never jet qualified so I really don't know too much about them. It was of particular interest to me because the kid that lived across the street from me in Tulsa, OK was quite a nerd...back then nerd had not been developed yet. In other words, my buddies and I who were a few years older thought he was a real jerk. His name was Leroy Keeley. Anyhow, Leroy when he became old enough joined the navy and went to Pensecola, FL for his flight training. He eventually made Lt. Commander in the navy as an aeronautical engineer. He was one of the principle designers of the Navy version of the A7. Just goes to show how wrong you can be when you are a kid. He did have one embarrassing moment though, He flew home in an A7 to visit is mom and dad, and when he landed at Tulsa Municipal, the gear was still up. Live and learn.

Jesse
We had a name for the A7 SLUF slow little ugly f***er. It was very easy to work on as most of the electronics were in waist high bays just in front of the gear wells. The doors had quick release latches (not 1000 screws like the F4 panels. the one bad thing was the man/seat seperate. It was a canvas seat liner and a big spring that would release and throw you into the inst panel at about 20 mph. Many broken noses later brought out a tcto to fix them. Those were the days.
