Hi all, Inspired by the old charts kindly provided by both Tom and John, and Volker's link to the ONC charts, I did a web search and very quickly came up with these, historicalcharts.noaa.gov/historicals/searchwww.timeandnavigation.com/Maps/Howtoreadanavigationalchart.html#I had no idea that it would be so easy to find such detail. The NOAA link produces what they called "Route Charts" mainly for the early to mid 50's and as well as topography you get all the beacon details and the outlines of the official airways, although lacking the airway names, altitudes, fan markers etc. Great for planning retro routes and if you want to see the old radio ranges and how the VOR network expanded over that period. The second site looks like one man's work and possibly still under construction. Although it seems some of the drop downs don't yet connect, there's some good stuff in there. A lot of work but you can of course add old beacons to the sim by editing the nearest airport with AFCAD or ADEX. Bill

I have quite a lot of U.S. 1:1,000,000 World Aeronautical Charts from the early 1950s. Interesting to see that the price back then was 25 cents each.
They are way too large for my home scanner but my local print shop may be able to scan them on one of their commercial scanners. If anyone is interested in them I can look at the feasability of having them scanned. Not sure how they would reproduce here on Cal Classic.

Hi John,
The NOAA online charts are 1:2,000,000 but very detailed and clear at full zoom. They also show they were originally 25 cents but now free to download.
The smaller scale on these route charts was so that an entire flight was covered by a single chart, EG Seattle - Chicago.
They work well with the Jeppesen area charts you've provided.

Very neat indeed. I put together a package to cover the Western US and it downloaded as a convenient zip file.
Cheers Stefan
