Hi all, Just uploaded at Avsim.com, Sim-Outhouse.com and Flightsim.com a repaint for Jens B. Kristensen's FSX/FS2004 Douglas DC-6 (early version): President Harry Truman's personal transport 'The Independence'. It is featured in its 1947 tan, blue and bare metal livery. Jens wrote me that as far as he knows the very special (unorthodox) paint job was based on an idea by Truman himself. It should be available within hours from now. Cheers, Maarten

Saves me the trouble Maarten...after coming across some pictures of the real plane at Wright Patterson Museum the other day I had put her on my list of paint jobs to do.

You're all very welcome indeed. It was a challenge to make as well as a pleasure. Next will be the 'Sacred Cow' feat. the livery it wore during its brief Roosevelt period. (it seems that President Roosevelt only used the VC-54C on two occasions, one of them being the Stalin/Churchill/Roosevelt conference in Yalta.) I just rearranged the windows, made the small passenger entrance door and positioned the hatch of the electric lift. This one won't be long because unlike 'The Independence' the 'Sacred Cow' had a rather less spectacular livery. Cheers, Maarten

Hi,
I just read that the White House press corps hired a 749 to carry the correspondents for a Truman visit to St. Louis or the like. On the way back, the 749 took off after the president, but landed before him.
Best regards, Volker

Hi Volker, Yes, the VC-121B Constellation 'Dewdrop' (48-0608) was used for that purpose. There is a special story about that Connie. In 1948 the Republican Thomas E. Dewey seems to have been so convinced that he would win the race for the presidency, that he decided that his personal aircraft would be a Connie. Well, his Democratic opponent Truman stayed for four more years and prefered to keep "his" 'Independence'. By the way, there is an interesting site on US Presidents and their personal aircraft: www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/030519/19one.htmCheers, Maarten

That is routine on Presidential trips - the press plane leaves last so they can take pictures of the President leaving, and then Air Force One flies slower than the press plane to let it land first and the press get set up before he/she steps off the plane.

Hi,
I am not sure, but to me it sounded like it was not intentional back then.
Best regards, Volker
