Forum Avatars

Hi all,

I have changed the default avatar to a Santa Fe Skyways DC-4 (I am both a Santa Fe and a Douglas Aircraft fan).

There are other aircraft avatars available that match your "Rank" if you wish to use those instead. Click the word Profile at the top of the Forum screen, click the Edit Profile button at the right, and in the Avatar tab choose Use a Forum Avatar, then click Pick One.

So no more aliens lurking in the forum (the default avatar looked like an alien).

Thank you! The new avatar fits the forum very well. Its far easier on the eye than that creepy alien looking thing.

Often, forum sites will use an ugly or creepy looking avatar on purpose to force people to upload their own avatar and personalize their profile. I have noticed with other forums this works with about half of the forum users. The rest either don't know how to upload a profile photo, or just plain don't care.

Oh, by the way, why did Santa Fe Skyways fail, and where were it's routes?

It failed because it was owned by Santa Fe Railroad, and the CAB refused to allow that (cannot own a railroad and an airline).

The routes were about the same as the Santa Fe Railroad main lines:

I read in a book by Ernest Gann that the Matson Lines steamship company ran into the same problem. They were operating DC-4s between the west coast and Hawaii, and the trip included a low pass of the company steamship.

Yep, that is correct, same basic reason. Santa Fe thought they could get away with it since they were freight only. Not so.

BTW, your avatar is not displaying for me, unless you want the words "Pixel Pilot Avatar" to appear instead of an image. Then it's fine.

I changed something in my profile to get rid of the alien before you changed the default to Santa Fe Skyways. I'll see if I can turn it back on. Look at that! I did it.
