Hey Everyone,
It has been a while since I have written here but I have been around. This is addressed to the excellent 1649 team.
I am working in conjunction with another person on the Lockheed SR-71 fuel system. I was wondering if it would be possible to see the code used for the fuel distribution. Currently the SR-71 has 7 fuel tanks but 10 tanks have been programed to reflect the proper MOI's produced by the fuel. The fuel tanks burn in about the proper order but relying on FS' built fuel burn protocol is not enough.
Is it possible to transfer fuel from fuel tanks other than Center 1 and Center 2?
Due to recent computer troubles I am now unable to open word documents, PDF's and more or print out the SDK's. I have an MHT file of writtent notes of the fuel burn if you would like to see them.
The burn order FS uses are what I have called burn groups. There are 4 groups and they are as follows:
Group 1: Externals 1 + 2 Group 2: R/L Tip + Center 3 Group 3: R/L Aux + Center 2 Group 4: R/L Main + Center 1
Without any fuel control such as the system in the 1649, The fuel will drain from groups 1 to 4 in order. When the externals are emptied the tips and center will drain, once the tips are empty aux's then mains will burn and once Center 3 is empty Center 2 then Center 1 will burn.
Unfortunately this is a bit inadequate. ultimately the fuel system should be completely automated to maintain the cg according to a set schedule via fuel transfers according to the CG documentations with a manual override.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Fuel handling is one of the most difficult things to do in FS, since you are always overriding FS's default behavior (among other things).
You can view the code for the fuel handling in the VNConnie1649A.cab file (in the plane's panel folder) by extracting the fuel gauges and viewing them in any text editor. Of course you should not use the gauges verbatim without permission.
You should be able to automate this code based on the amount of fuel remaining in each tank (which is measurable by gauge code), but I don't see any commands for actually transferring fuel between tanks, only opening and closing fuel connections to the engines.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom
I had forgotten about extracting the Cab file. Its been a while since I worked with gauges.
There is no intent on using them verbatim since the fuel tank assignments are different. The most important thing is to see the fuel commands.
Thanks again

The Avro York and Avro Lancastrian II panels have the ability to transfer fuel between tanks. There is a fuel management gauge and a Fuel folder containing a bunch of XML files that would appear to enable this. You might find something that you need in one of those panels.
If I recall correctly, you can get both aircraft over at Avsim.

Thanks! That will help very much. Would there be any way to make a fuel transfer process automated? I need to obtain a transfer rate of 18,000lbs/hr and 4,000lbs/hr...which is quite a lot but considering the SR-71 is just a big fuel tank it makes sense.

If you are working in FS9, I wrote a gauge that will use FSUIPC to transfer fuel between tanks as required. You can move fuel from any tank, to any tank, at any rate you specify. It doesn't work very well in FSX, as the fuel variables only update once per second. If you are interested, drop me a note.
