Hi folks, I'm not normally one to plug my own work shamelessly but this may be of interest. As many of you know I create airline callsigns for EditVoicePack and make them available on AVSIM at regular intervals. The majority of these are probably of little interest here but amongst those uploaded today are two "classic" call signs that I don't think have been made before, These are "Transworld" for TWA and "November Kilo" for Kuwait Airways. Both were, I gather, used in earlier days before the FS default "TWA" and "Kuwaiti" were adopted. There is also "Air Korea" in there for Chosonminhang Korean Airways. Unless Tom had added any of these since I last downloaded his AI sets, I don't think any of these have been made before. The download can be found in the FS2004 sounds category at library.avsim.net/ , filename vp-al25.zip or direct through the URL library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004snds&DLID=132045 . Wishing all of you you all the best, John

I recall hearing "transworld" in some old movie. Tom and I had/have no idea what the callsign was for the North Korean airlines around 1960. It was not even called Chosonminhang, but instead, had 4 letters/characters on painted on the fuselage. As FS Aviator wrote, it was "some unpronouncable string of words". As far as I know, no photo exists of one.

Hey, you don't happen to have the callsign 'Colonial' sitting around anywhere do you??? ;D Ah, there lies a problem. I have researched this before and I cannot find any evidence of Colonial Airlines ever having an ICAO code, never mind a callsign. That being said, if they operated only domestic flights, they didn't have to comply with ICAO rules and could use any callsign they chose. However, I'm a bit careful not to invent callsigns as one can easily be made to look stupid when the facts come to light. If you can give me concrete evidence that "Colonial" was indeed used I'd be only too pleased to create it for you and all. And any others that anyone finds is needed. It is the least I can do for all the help I get here. Best wishes, John

John, I think he intends on using it for his own Colonial Pacific Airlines. I would assume that the real life callsign was Colonial, but I have no info either. I don't know what the TWA callsign was in our period; I always assumed it was "TWA". They have been called Trans World Airways since at least 1955, though.

As far as I can establish the callsign for Trans World Airlines changed when the old two-letter ICAO code TW was replaced by a standard three-letter TWA. That change took place in 1987. If that is correct it puts "Transworld" well into the era we play with.
Best wishes,
John

The real Colonial (Canadian Colonial Airways/Colonial Airways) www.timetableimages.com/ttimages/ca1.htmused 'Colonial' as the callsign as follows: www.aerosite.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=742&Itemid=54They ran through the NE United States to Canada and to Bermuda. I think someone on the boards here even had pictures of Colonial ships in California as well... Will that work?

Hi Bud - thanks for that link, I hadn't found that in my travels. I've made a callsign and it will be in the next set I upload to AVSIM but that probably won't be until next year. To save the wait, I have made the file temporarily available at: www.adventure-unlimited.org/files/COLONIAL.zip . Best wishes, and enjoy! John If anybody views this thread at a later date and needs to download from AVSIM, the file name will be vp-al26.zip and, all being well, the link library.avsim.net/esearch.php?FileName=vp-al26.zip should find it.

Thanks John, that's great! The only way I was going to get a callsign was to piggyback on an existing one.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

As I know 'Chosonminhang Korean Airways (CAAK)' is airlines that was operated by North Korean Government before Air Koryo, Which is now North Korean flag career. "Air Korea' is one operated by South Korean Corporation 'Hanjin Corporation' which now is mother company of Korean Air. So, I think selecting Air Korea's call sign as 'Chosonminhang Korean Airways' is bit error

I joined FAA in 1969. The radiotelephony for TWA at that time was "TWA", not Trans World and continued to be so until they were swallowed by American. Some of the TWA pilots used to say " T Double A "

I downloaded the file for use with the Colonial DC-4 I did for Jenn's model. But I don't know where to place it within FS. Can you guide me please? Thanks,
Dave
