Jesse, I know you are out there. Manfred Jahn has been re-working Greg Pepper's C97 as KC97, C97G and HC97 variants for FSX with doors that open and shut with accessories. I think he may release the YC97 with the B-29 fin sometime as well. Anyway I just finished repainting the C97G in the colors of the aircraft you flew. I hope it looks okay to you. Its been 5 years since I fiddled with those textures.

Dave,
Have you posted this repaint anyplace?
I would like to get it so I can fly Jesse's routes. I have done it 3 or 4 times in FS2004 and would like to do it in FSX now.
Thanks for your good work on my favorite aircraft, the Boeing Stratocruiser types. Have flown many hrs. in them.

Hi Bob
Thank you
I just "finished" the repaint yesterday and I need to look at it a while to see if corrections and additions are required. Then I'll upload them. I've been painting "92607" for Jesse since the late 90s.

Dave, excellent work as usual. It is a minor point but the only difference I see that could use some correction is the dark grey area on the fuselage. 92607 had a really sharp aluminum finish that would shine like a new silver dollar. It would reflect anything that came along side her. I especially like Manfred's addition of the clam shell rear doors and the retractable entrance ramp into the tail. That was our normal loading area rather than the side doors. In keeping with MATS safety policy, all the Royal Blue seats for the 58 passengers were rear facing.

When I figure that out there will be no problem making her shine brightly.

Dave, if you need a point-of-reference for shine in FSX, may I suggest the A2A B377 paintkit? They did an excellent job of shine and I've used the paintkit of several of their models to source shading and alpha settings on other models without issue. Their bump mapping on the B377 is unparalleled IMHO which only enhances the shine, but I think even without the bump map, the shine looks very convincing. a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=11269

HI Dave,
Within 1 hour of finding out about the new repaint, it was setting at parking spot 10 at Travis AFB. Flightplan for PHNL is made and have clearance to taxi. think Jesse is flying the same route but in reverse. I had a NH Air Guard C-97 setting at Travis so I exchanged aircraft and started planning the flight.
Thanks very much for your work. I think it would look better shinny but this is just fine. I will put many hours on it since I finally got FSX working to my liking. FSTramp was a big help plus a new video card instead of the built in one and more memory.
I see Jessy made a comment, I am glad he is watching. I have questions about the interior of the C-97. How many crewmembers were on the flights? Did you have a bunk(s) so you could rest on the flights? I cannot find any interior layouts of the MATS C-97 on the internet.
THanks again for the repaint Dave, keep up the good work.

Bob, I no longer have a means of uploading pics and files so I sent the info you wanted to Dave via email. I hope he can get it up loaded for you. It is a page from my dash one that shows the seating arrangement when the C-97 is used for pax rather than freight. The crew on board is: Pilot, Co-Pilot, Flight Engineer, Navigator, Radio Operator and Load Master (Crew Chief). The Flight Attendants have a lead FA and three assistants. They occupy the last four seats in the pax section during takeoff and landings. Just forward of the pax seats at the front is a compartment with two crew rest bunks used by the relief crew.

I played around with the alpha channels and the _spec.dds files with some success but no cure. Looking around the Internet I found dozens of threads unhappy with the gray look of textures but they had no real solution. Finally I ran across a thread that talked about substitute textures (that are copied over the existing files) placed into the main FSX Texture folder - GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome.dds & GlobalEnvTest.dds That file package can be downloaded at Avsim - library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=alternate_globalenvtest.zip&CatID=root&Go=Search The result of adding them and modifying the aircraft textures gave the aircraft some shine where there was none before.
