Hi there, Just found between my old stuff a postcard I got when I was about 5 years old. The photo has been taken in 1953/1954. The card is still in mint condition, since it has been in a frame for some 50 years. Featured on the card are: Front row l.t.r.: 3 KLM Douglas DC-6's and 1 KLM DC-6B Second row l.t.r.: 2 KLM Convair 240's, 1 KLM DC-6, 1 Aerolineas Argentinas DC-6 and 1 BEA Vickers Viking Third row l.t.r.: 2 KLM Convair 340's and 1 KLM L-1049C/E Super Constellation Fourth row l.t.r.: 1 KLM Douglas DC-3 and 1 KLM Convair 340 At the top: 1 KLM Convair 240 Those were the days that my parents took wee me on the bike from our home in Amsterdam to Schiphol, which took about 40 minutes. When at home I never needed to miss the aircraft since the approach for runway 22 was straight in front of the loft we lived, so during my first 7 years I literally grew up with the sight and the sound of the big propliners we all like so much. Cheers, Maarten

Wow, that's great. And using the classic Schiphol scenery and the 1957 traffic gets you pretty close to that.

That's a great photo, Johan. From the fact that the KLM aircraft are all-metal with blue cheatlines, that there is (only) one DC-6 in her first livery KLM livery (1948), that apart from this one DC-6 the only KLM aircraft are DC-3/C-47's, DC-4/C-54's and a L-749 Constellation, that there is no Convair (yet) to be seen (Convairs were delivered during the second half of 1948), I would say that that photo was taken some time in......1948. By then, Schiphol was in a relatively early stage of reconstruction, compared to the photo above.
Cheers, Maarten
