It was certainly an important stop for KLM.
Found this on the web,
"We landed at Kemayoran airport in the middle of Jakarta, which, though large, was a much smaller city then than the megalopolis it is today with over 12 million residents. Kemayoran airport was small and welcoming. It appears in an early Mel Gibson / Sigournay Weaver / Linda Hunt film, “A Year of Living Dangerously”, that portrays the period of the attempted coup. It is also drawn with some accuracy in one of the “Tin-Tin” cartoon books, Flight 714, in which the little reporter has some adventures in Indonesia and the region."
On Google Earth you can see that the north-south runway might have eventually been about 9-10,000' (DC-8's used it) and the east - west about 5,000'. The old terminal might still be an office block.

Hi,
do you have the film and/or the comic ? Some representative stills from the movie or a scan from Tin Tin would be very helpful.

Well looking at google maps its still pretty easy to pick out the extremities of the airport as it was, it looks like they basically connected roads to the ends of the runways and painted lots of white lines for the cars and voila!

Wolfgang Hey Wolfgang, I have the TinTin comic itself; unfortunately there isn't much in there that is usable for making a scenery. On the couple of pages where the story takes place at Kemayoran, most of the action happens inside the terminal; the few 'outside' drawings show little of the buildings or general lay-out of the airport. I can still send you a couple of scans, though. Regards, Nikko.

Hi Nikko thanks for your offer, but as you said, from inside the terminal it isn't usable. I will make some screenshots from the Tin Tin film on youtube. But the best would be period photos and/or a diagram Best Regards Wolfgang

Hi Adrian, yes terminal and buildings are clear, but what´s about the run and taxiway layout. Some can be seen or vaguely discern in google earth, but not for sure. If a diagram can be found, that would fit easily the needs ;D But first I have to finish 2 other airports Thank you again Wolfgang
