Hi, maybe someone can remember this one? @kalle, if you could send me the air and cfg file I would give it a try, about a plane that act as a boat. Cheer Bernie

For your own use only (or with the author's permission) you can load the FSX library BGL file into ModelConverterX (Import) and save as an FS2004 BGL file (Export Scenery).

Kalle, your statements are absolutely right. Fs9 AI ships are only shown within a 50 miles radius as any AI aircraft. So unfortunately no way to create Atlantic crossings or other long distance routes like with FSX. Even coastlines trips are problematic as the sea isn't flat. AI ships will bob at the first bump and disappear.
Some rivers are practicable with AI, so for example part of The Southern Mississippi.
Most of the CFS2 carriers, submarines and other ships I adapted as AI remain static. The visual effect of static ships with animated wakes isn't quite different to moving ships. At least some very few are moving like fo instance Circle Line around Manhattan, a trawler through the very long Sognefjord in Norway or the paddle steamer "Waverely" on its way from Glasgow to Oban in Scotland.

Hi there, once again - great ships. I am continuing with FS9 and I am looking for more variety of ships from the CalClassic era (50-60ies). I have managed to run AI ships mostly in the vicinity of harbors and coastlines with historically stronger ship traffic (English Channel, Antwerp, Kiel but also Asian and African coasts. FS9 makes that possible by treating ships like aircraft taxiing at airports. SO airports have to be created at sea level without anything except parking, taxiways and runways. The taxiways can be many miles long and with some experimenting you can see ships crusing along the taxiways or parking. These AI ships need special .air and .cfg, which one can take from some AI models/ships published some time ago at the usual sources. There are only few AI ships specially made for FS9 - so I had to reconfigure such originaly amde for CFS2. With the correct FS9 .air and .cfg they work wonderfully in FS9. At least you get more variety but mostly navy ships - only few Liberty/T2/Victory and almost no cruise ships / liners. I have repainted many of the cargo vessels but post-war civilian ships are missing (except "Normandy" and few fishing boats. That's why I am so fond of ships from the 50ies and 60ies. I have ni idea how to reconfigure from FSX to FS9. I was trying to do this by editing .dds textures into .DXT3 but no success - it did not work also with the SS Martha as outlined in your comment. So - if you would reconfigure I could test these ships with my FS9 traffic patterns. Looking forward on your comments and thanks again Kalle Hi Over the weekend I will send you a couple of files saved in GMAX for FS9 that you can try to test. Best regards Henrik

Hi,
I think Henrik want to show this link:
And then choose the file:
"global_ai_ship_traffic_v1.zip"
Hope this helps
Bernie

Hi kl791, that's right that what I was always looking for! Thanks a million! I converted some CalClassic ships, to get rid of the modern cruise ships in FSX standard traffic. Your number of details look terrific! I hope that this will not be an impact on the frame rate when they will gather in a harbour like New York. Will check this today. Cheers Bernie PS: The pictures reminds me of my second hobby, sub sim simulator SILENT HUNTER IV/V! But there I saw them only in the periscope! Yup, that's what I was thinking too.

Wow!
Back in my CFS 2 days, the mission builder allowed me to have some very nice ships sailing all around the world, but FS 9 has really had a dirth of marine traffic.
I'd love to see more ships in the seaways around land than is currently available.

Almost all CFS2 ships might be use as AI in FS9. You just need the suitable air file. But most of them are rather WWII models and therefore don't really match with classic era. Anyway, the greatest lack in FS9 is the limited radius showing AI ships. That's the reason why I prefer to place CalClassic static ships and add animated wakes. The visual impression seen from a higher level is the same as with moving AI ships. And by far easier and faster to place. As CFS2 aren't convertible with SAAM, I insert them as static AI with a very simple Afcad.

Thank you for these two...great add on's. I like it so much I increased my Ship Traffic to 50% and can't see that it really affects my FPS.

"VERY NICE" Those were the days when ships used to looked like "ships" (as they should look) .... unlike floating boxes or skyscrapers as is the case in regard to many ships today. Mark C AKL/NZ

Just thinking too .... that's a beautiful rendition of P&O's CANBERRA.
I remember that ship very well.
Be nice to see other classic liners (among freighters) too .... like the UNITED STATES, FRANCE, QUEEN ELIZABETH (and QE2), QUEEN MARY (and QM2), ELLINIS ..... and other liners from the 50's, 60's, and 70's era.
