I would think it means that FSXI will be a bit further out.....but as long as there are sim pilots out there I think FS will never really cease to be re-invented.

Long Live FS2004. I'll never upgrade and if its the last version, then Im good with it until the next thing comes along.
I have had it in my head to do a complete reinstall of FS9 with installation of a retro FS, which Im sure all you guys have done. Im just trying to decide the era. Im thinking early to mid 1970's.

I'm sorry for these guys. After all they have developed the one thing (to avoid the g... word) we are happy to spend our time with and which causes us to get together at this great forum. Cheers, Maarten

Hi,
I wondered about ACES when I heard about the layoffs yesterday. If it's true it's too bad, for many would have liked to see FS continue as it has recently. While I don't know if this is the end for FSXI, I would assume that "community relations" will be very different from now on, if outside programmers, etc. become involved for the majority of the project.
Of course this is no big deal for me (or many of you), since I'm very happy with FS2004 for my main sim, and perhaps FSX for "low and slow" fun flying (eventually). I'm glad I bought my new computer with XP on it - looks like there might be no need for anything later...

I also anticipated something like this and I was lucky enough to locate a OEM version of XP. I am holding it in reserve in case it becomes necessary to install it on a new computer.
I have been considering buying one of the newer gaming laptops but so far all of them only have Vista. I have a program that will wipe the hd completely and allow me to reformat with a new OS.

Hi Jesse:
Sadly, nearly all new laptops won't run xp because xp doesn't have drivers for the new video cards. Check carefully before buying.
We just went through this where I work.

This was inevitable, I think. It was already looking like FS11 was being pushed way out...and there were ugly rumors that the planned new version would no longer allow C gauges ... a disaster in my opinion if it were true. This means planning and dreaming starts over. Maybe -- we can all hope -- the next incarnation will focus on core values rather than glitz.
The economy, and flight simming, will recover. There a stable, solid market out there and someone will jump into even if FSX is the last Microsoft flight simulation product (which I don't believe it will be in the long run).
There's a larger trend at work here: the gradual stabilization of the computer industry, software as well as hardware. It used to be that we all could marvel and "something new" every few months, then every year, then every few years. But that "something new" was often buggy and rushed to market. Now, maybe we'll all get longer life cycles and more stable, better products rather than the rush to add more and more "features".
This is also a big opportunity for the MSFS add-on community. Without anticipating a brand-new-all-wonderful version coming out Real Soon Now, we may focus on improving and expanding what we have. Simmers will still have some change burning in their pockets. FSX lags way behind in add-ons and improvements. I'm looking for that situation to improve.
For example...I'm fairly sure, having used it in a development project recently, that the SimConnect interface would (stretched to its limits) support the complete replacement of the FSX ATC system with a much better third-party one. But such a development effort would be huge and expensive and no third party outfit would dare attempt it knowing that they'd likely have the rug jerked out from under them by FS11 about the time they were ready for release. Now...well, maybe.
Perhaps I'm just dreaming. But I don't see this as a disaster at all.

Hi,
if it just delays a new version, it might be beneficial for FS, I believe. FS9 took a year longer to be replaced, and the add-on industry profited from it.
This might be less than perfect for Microsoft and Aces, of course, since people are buying fewer new copies over the years.
Best regards, Volker

I saw the same thing happen to another sim a few years ago, it wasn't as big as FS but what happened there was the original company sold it to another software company and it improved to a certain extent. I'm not sure if this will happen here or not, but as mentioned earlier there is a market for FS and to let that slip would be foolish, I did look at Xplane a while back, it's open source, may be there is a possibility, again who knows?
If and I say IF another company does take it on I hope they listen to what is being said on the forums and make the sim even better.

One good thing for me (sticking with FS2004) - if there are no more iterations I won't be stuck with an older and older sim as the new ones come out. I'll always be flying the next to last one.
