All these Great military transports to fly. And the Presidential transports. I have been landing my C-47 in between the buildings were Bolling Field is supposed to be whenever A VIP needs to go to washington. Not very realistic. I am sure there are many others that would like to make VIP flights into Washington. There is a need! I am limited to EZ Scenery. Now that work is slow, Perhaps it is time to try my hand at scenery. At least Clearing out the buildings! I failed miserably At trying to convert to Male only ATC . So, I can only handle the simple stuff. There is some good documentation on these airports= www.airfields-freeman.com/DC/Airfields_DC.htm#bollingen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolling_AFBA neat place to fly many great Propliners!--Have I sparked any interest? First off how do you remove defalt buildings and trees?

Well, if you want only to replicate the runways and taxiways ( meaning: no buildings), You can easily create an airport from scratch anywhere you want, for FS9 and FSX both, using Airport Facilitator X. It is a payware more advanced version of AFCAD 2.21 that makes your life easier because, differently than AFCAD 2.21, allows you to use integrated exclusion rectangles ( not requiring, like in AFCAD 2.21, an external exclusion .BGL creator program) that can remove buildings, trees and other obstacles. If you're interested, you can find Airport Facilitator X on Flight 1 site, HERE.

IT WORKED!!! Thanks ashaman! I bought Airport Facilitator X. And for a while I thought I just threw 30 bucks into the wind. I know anything new has a learning curve, so I set my goal to just get some small result. In a small area, I removed the trees and buildings!! Now the world is at my feet! And KBOF is in progress!

No problems at all. AFX is all in all an advanced version of AFCAD gone payware ( one of the less pleasant fads in FS, inaugurated by FSUIPC ) and if you can use the one, you can use the other, simply learning the added commands and options ( like the always promised and never implemented EXCLUDE in AFCAD for FS9) to obtain better results with less work. As a payware I would have never suggested it if I hadn't tried it myself and hadn't found it at the very least 100% good. Have fun.

Hi, Ashaman...
Thanks for the tip re AFX. I downloaded the demo and I'm very impressed.
One question, though. I especially like the split window feature (shown in various animations of AFX on the Flight 1 website) which lets you see changes in one window as they are made in the other window. That would be very helpful for new airport creation.
Unfortunately, that feature doesn't work in the demo. That may be because the project has to be saved once (which one cannot do in the demo) before the split window works or it may be because it works only in FSX, which I do not use.
Can you confirm the AFX split window feature works in FS9?
Cheers,
Glenn

I have all the runways, taxiways, and aprons done. I had to fudge them a bit because of rising terrain. I need to learn how to flatten terrain. I also need to learn how to change the defalt ground textures to grass or dirt. I am adding EZ hangers and buildings now. My C-47 has a great home now.

I learned that when the taxiways are loaded, the terrain is flatend. That problem is out of the way! All the buildings that I placed at Anacostia disapeared though. Lots of wasted time. Thats when it's time to go to bed, and return in the morning!

Can you confirm the AFX split window feature works in FS9? Tell you the truth, my actual Pc is way underpowered to use that kind of option ( I'm working toward an upgrade for the end of the month), it almost freezes if I try to use at the same time FS9 and AFX, so I've never tried to use the split window. Sorry, can't either confirm or deny it for the moment. As for the flatten, if I need to flatten some geographical irregularity in an airport, I use the apron tool. All the terrain under and in the immediate vicinities of an apron is always flattened. And if I don't want an apron to be seen there, I simply make the apron invisible de-selecting the proper option in the properties of the apron itself. Taxiways can be used as well with the same flattening effect ( beside the invisibility, or at least I haven't been able to make an invisible taxiway yet), but I find that using aprons gives me more freedom and options.

it does work..but it is a resource hog....although as with ashaman..my computer is lower end...but I will say the few times I HAVE used it, it is wonderful not having to guess where the taxiway, apron or parking spot is.

Hi,
Make sure to put an apron under each runway. They are NOT flattened and will look very odd...

All done except for ground textures. That's probably much harder. Now to see if the Sacred Cow will fit in Bollings biggest hanger!
This opens whole new worlds for me!
Next= Grand Central Airport. Then a WWII March Field. And a 1930's Selfridge Field and .........

You made me curious and decided to Try it on a little strip ( to minimize impact on performances)... and will not do it anymore until after I'll have upgraded, just too heavy for my rig... and it works good. It works under FS9 as well. It shows the pointer too, outlined in red. Have fun.

Hi, Ashaman and JasonK...
Many thanks for the info re AFX's split window feature!
I've just upgraded to an Intel Core Duo CPU/motherboard rig, so I might give it a try.
I'm a great fan of AFCAD, but AFX looks like it might be just that much better.
Cheers,
Glenn

it is...without a doubt money well spent...
I'm lost...do you mean tuck the apron under the runway or make an apron slightly smaller than the runway and run it all the length?
