Well, the Chat forum has caused it's first (and probably last) problem between people here at the forum. I see little reason for continuing it - I will convert it to Jesse's Corner for talk about real flying stories.
Some feel they are entitled to post anything they want, and others feel they need to be protected from that. There seems to be little common ground.
Therefore, those who wish to post about non flying/FS issues will have to look elsewhere - I will delete anything not so related.
I am posting this in case someone wants to try to convince me otherwise...

Hi, It's a pitty, but somebody feels always disordered. I liked the chat forum very much, because it gaves sometimes an other point of view. It is my own personal decision whose thread I read and whose not. If I dislike the content, no one will force me to read it. Wolfgang

Hi all While I generally support the right to speak (or write) out for me this is an aviation forum where I expect to contibute and learn about just that. Not sure exactly what the problem was but from my perspective if I feel the need to write about other topics there are plenty of available outlets. This is a great forum because it has "scruples". I believe folks who write here are not worried about being attacked, condemned, ridiculed or otherwise criticised and for that we can all thank the guy who makes this work. Warren

Wow, spend a day in the woods and come back to find something has hit the proverbial something else...
I very seldom read anything on these pages that makes me just roll my eyes in despair and wish that my keyboard was fitted with a 'Smite' key. Tom's firm moderation gets much of the credit for this but also much is due (I believe) to the members of this little Group in general.
Missed the offending post but support whatever the final decision is without reservation.
I just wish that I had some flying stories to contribute.
Chris

I agree with Tom's position, but it kinda reminds me of the old situation in the military. Company Punishment. For those who have not served in the military, I can give it to you in a nutshell.
For example John Doe screws up by the numbers and no one in the outfit will step forward to accept the responsibility. Therefore the First Sergeant or Company Commander restricts the entire offending barracks to the post for the weekend. This is known as CP.
In this case on the chat forum, the innocent are punished along with the guilty. I believe the forum administrator should flag the offenders, warn them and then carry on as usual. If they persist, then block them and their IP.
If the chat forum goes down in flames, then the general users will not have a place to discuss OT items that might be of use to the forum members.
Now to resume our regular scheduled program. ;D

OK, the Chat forum can stay for now. I will consider it on probation. The forum rules already state that posts will be deleted for any reason, especially if there are personal attacks of ANY KIND. That will happen even in the Chat forum now. This entire forum is now an attack free zone.
Thanks,

Tom: I think you should take the offenders and make them fall out @03:20 with full packs, for 8 mile run/march. Jesse knows what I am talking about.....

I used to be in the steel industry, as a wage slave, then a supervisor, and later in middle management. Time was when, if a young fella would not do the right thing by his mates, he was given some counselling behind the Gas House, by a more mature employee of the six-foot-six, 245lb variety. Very effective, but Workplace Health and Safety put an end to it. One of your great American jurists said something along the lines of "The right to freedom of speech does not extend to falsely yelling 'Fire!, Fire!' in a crowded theatre." The point is that 'rights' come with responsibilities attached. The rules for the forum are clearly stated, and Tom has always applied them impartially to anyone who has overstepped the mark. Long may that policy continue ! BTW, I did not see the offending post, even though the timezone difference often makes that possible. If Tom thought it was out of order, that's good enough for me. All the Best MikeW

Just to let you know the price of keeping the Chat forum, we have now lost two members that posted often and made valuable contributions. Hope it's worth it...

Hi again all Many of us come from military and (or) civil aviation backgrounds. Most of us understand from these backgrounds that rules are necessary to make things work properly. This site for me has been one of the most friendly and helpful places anywhere throughout my involvement with flight sim and I want it to stay that way. Our forum has endured hacking, spam and now perhaps another difficult issue and it has survived because it is well managed .... but it is managed. I don't believe a few simple rules present much in the way of challenge to most of us and I for one am happy to follow them since it can only enhance my simming experience. Now back to trying not to kill myself in the 1649.

In perspective or retrospective...
Tom and many others do so much...and for FREE...to make our siming hours enjoyable...and with the demise of MS FS's efforts, we will be on our own even more so.
To burden the Forum Administration with unproductive Police work is not in anyone's best interest.
If we can't police ourselves then we deserve to lose...call it CP, or what...been there, done that...hated it, but it did effect some changes.
Sorry, Tom. Sorry that you, and the others even had to waste your time on this sort of issue. Even sorrier that we lost two, respected posters. Now their input is lost...maybe someone can convice them something about "the bell tolls us".

Its simple; its Tom his forum, he can do what he wants.
Tom is a very nice, helpfull and polite captain, so he expects the same back. Lets give him that.
