I am unable to start the engines in the DC6B with the Mitchell Panel.
Boost pumps on, Mixturefull rich, Battery on. Select Engine and crank - and it carnaks and cranks etc. In fact, it won't stop cranking, evening turning the battery off. CTRL-E works fine.
I'm obviously missing some step somewhere.

Do you have your Magnetos turned to Both?

Joe,
I have found that even though I put the mixture levels up to rich, as soon as I trigger the starter, the mixture level pops to cutoff.
So what I do after clicking the starter is click the mixture level back up and she fires. You will have to have both your pedestal and upper panel open.

On the Mitchell panel, the mixture levers shouldn't move by themselves (as I remember).
On the KMCC panels, they are supposed to do that. To start the engines:
1. Boost Pump(s) on 2. Magneto(s) to OFF 2. Throw engine select knob to the correct engine number. 3. Crack the throttle. 4. Press the start switch. The mixture should go to idle cutoff. 5. Wait for the correct number of blades (or a second or two) 6. Throw the correct magneto to BOTH. The engines should start.
Note that this doesn't work in FSX - use Ctrl-E to start the engines.
Hope this helps,

Could this be another variation of the fuel_metering_type = 0 or 1 question Check for that line in the aircraft.cfg and after noting what you have there now change it to the other one and then try again. Not sure that this will fix this particular problem but it's worth a try.

I too have had trouble with starting the DC-6 engines in FSX. The engines would crank and crank and not fire up. My solution, after experimenting, was to turn the starter torque in the aircraft config up. Right now it's set at 2.0!! It may seem high but the engines will start right up.

I just tried setting the normalized starter torque to 2.000 in the CV-440 and it works like a charm!!! It also worked with the SOH A-26 Invader!! Oh, yeah, I'm all happy-happy-joy-joy now!!!!!!!!

That's the problem. Follwed your advice and started right up. Thanks! Good news. I spent hours trying to figure that out when I started, so when I read your post, it reminded me of my experience. Glad to hear it worked. Enjoy the DC-6!
