A "CHANGE" is often as good as a "REST" (or so it is said) .... so .... in-between other slowly advancing HJG (and other) FS projects I´ve lately been evaluating/messing around with Libardo GUZMAN´s L-188 ELECTRA simulation (when time and opportunity have permitted) .... "for FS2004 and FSX". Not many simulations of the L-188 ELECTRA exist for FS and among those that do Libardo´s is "the most recent" having been released during 2015 .... but .... it also seems to be the lesser known among these representations too. "One of" the first notable L-188 simulations was that released by Chris BUFF .... back in the FS2000 days .... and which ported over to FS2002, and FS2004, albeit with some minor display issues .... as I recall. This version was then followed by the JC LUCARINY simulation for FS2004 and FSX .... and not long afterward by the KBT release for FSX only and which followed their earlier P3 ORION simulation for FS2004 and FSX. Whilst both LuCARINY and KBT simulations of the L-188 ELECTRA are better known, I, personally, have always felt these FS2004 and FSX specific models (whilst they "are" very good) didn´t quite correctly capture/best represent the upper trailing edge tail shape which is unique to the silhouette of both the L-188 and P3 ORION, and tended to result in a much "too VISCOUNT-looking" tail appearance for my own satisfaction. Therefore .... and IMHO .... the more recent L-188 ELECTRA simulation by Libardo GUZMAN seems to better/more authentically represent the overall shape of the classic L-188 turboprop airframe .... as I hope the following imagery may testify .... AEROVIAS AEROCONDOR de COLOMBIA (early 1970´s)AEROVIAS AEROCONDOR de COLOMBIA CARGO (late 1970´s)TASMAN EMPIRE AIRWAYS LTD (early 1960´s) .... otherwise affectionately regarded by Australians (during the late 1950´s) as "TAKE ELECTRA´s AND LIKE IT" AIR NEW ZEALAND (late 1960´s)Libardo´s L-188 ELECTRA simulation comes with both a panel (by Paul STROGEN), and ALLISON turboprop soundpack (by Yuji OZAWA an Bill SCHUTZ .... from the FS98/FS2000 days) .... HOWEVER .... I chose to discard both of these supplied files in favour of another, yet unreleased (and I feel superior) ALLISON turboprop soundpack which I´ve been "fiddling with" for a wee while now. These big turboprop engines (which also power C-130 HERCULES, CV-580, and P3 ORION aircraft) run at a constant 100% RPM .... with power being applied per propeller pitch adjustment/s .... and have "a unique audio signature" within the aviation and one which, I feel, this other "slowly developing" soundpack better represents. Likewise and in regard to the supplied the panel too .... I´ve replaced the one which accompanies this simulation with the following 4 (better IMHO) panel options and which I´m still currently evaluating (my own preferences tend toward the first 3 of the 4 panels illustrated below) .... again as both time and opportunity permit .... L-188/P3 TYPE CIVIL PANELL-188/P3 TYPE MILITARY PANELL-188/P3 TYPE PANEL .... KBT V1L-188/P3 TYPE PANEL .... KBT V2The FDE which accompanies Libardo´s L-188 simulation isn´t too bad, but, I´ve not been able to resist the temptation to want to "tweak certain parameters of it" .... here´n´there .... and with so far-so good results Not many textures currently exist for Libardo´s L-188 ELECTRA simulation .... barring the couple which accompany this SIMVIATION.COM hosted package .... along with a few other HD texture options for it roo and which have been "very recently" released (both the TEAL and AIR NEW ZEALAND versions of these new HD textures (aircraft I knew quite well) do bear a few errors among them though, but, are otherwise "VERY ACCEPTABLE") at FLIGHTSIM.COM. Libardo GUZMAN´s L-188 ELECTRS is a "VERY NICE" simulation .... I feel .... and is further improved by the alternative audio and panel options I´ve mentioned above .... along with FDE tweaks I´ve also so far employed .... and one which I´m very happy recommending to anyone interested. In short .... and in my own brief assessment so far too .... this simulation is "quite an ELECTRA-flying experience" Mark C BOG/CO

Hi Mark, Glad you've been working on the Electra, one of the more interesting propliners to fly in FS. Nice to see the TEAL livery; I didn't realize that was available. Mike Stevens and I have also been playing with Libardo's model, and it is indeed a good one. I currently have 2 of Frank's liveries installed, the KLM (available at flightsim or via www.calclassic.com/frank.html), and a Northwest version (not released). Frank has also done Eastern old style liveries for 1959 (Fly Easterns Prop-Jet Electra) and 1961 (Fly Eastern Air Lines), also not released. Finally, he had done an original American livery, but hadn't finished it yet (no lettering). Mike and I have adapted Libardo's model to our FSAviator flight dynamics, and my panel with notepad gauges. Works for me since I'm familiar with them. Your panels look good too. Thanks,

Those liveries (of Franks) which you mention sound "very enticing" .... I´ll look forward to them in due course .... and hope someonbe elsde might be able to finish, if not re-do, the AA livery for Libardo´s model.
Tom .... give me a few days and I´ll try´n get each of these 4 pasnel options to you.
The ALLISON soundpack to which I referred (above) msay take a little morte tome.
I´m currently "in Colombia" (and will be until mid November) and are hopoing to be able to once again meet with my colleague Libardo GUZMAN .... and if we can convene this meeting (since he´s in a different city from me), then, I´ll enquire as to the availability of a PSD for this model, since I don´t think any are publiicly available as yet.

I am very happy with KBT Electra model base BUT that is outstanding and beautiful Electra cockpit panel you have in your plane!! Great screenshots!!
Take look at the four orange switches in the cockpit panel, you will see faded out orange color for engine one and engine two switches. That is IMPRESSIVE worn out detail!!!!
You are correct. I can see 4 stars on the tail of new HD texture compared to my KBT version of 5 stars on the tail. I do not know if the tail is supposed to have 4 or 5 stars. Also, the airline font of new HD texture is big in bold format while my KBT version shows smaller and non bold format for airline name. I do not know which one is correct in real world version.
Once again, great screenshots and AMAZING cockpit panel!!!
Regards,
Aharon

As I mentioned in response to your "identical posting" on the HJG forum ....
The 4 white star TEAL Southern Cross tail logo configuration .... and the 5 gold star AIR NEW ZEALAND Southern Constellation tail configuration .... are both "CORRECT" for the late 1950´s/early 1960´s and very late 1960´s eras respectively .... and in addition to this the bold "AIR NEW ZEALAND" fuselage font style is also correct for the very late 1960´s era too.

the 4 white star TEAL Southern Cross tail logo configuration "CORRECT" for the late 1950´s/early 1960´s Oh darn that means the livery that I got for my KBT plane had wrong 5 star tail for TEAL livery. Oh well let's hope nobody notices that in my screenshots. the bold "AIR NEW ZEALAND" fuselage font style is also correct for the very late 1960´s era too. I was asking about TEAL PROP JET font. Is it supposed to be large in bold font or not?? And thanks for clarifications. That is why I asked you because I knew you would know those liveries better than anyone. Regards, Aharon

Tom: I thought I saw or remebered all of Northwest's Tail Logos, the one on the Electra, I don't remeber. Was that the only Aircraft to use that Logo? Just curious... Also is there a Reeves paint for Libardo's model?
Take Care, Stef

Hi, The NWA eagle with the chest plate arrow pointing northwest had been used for years in their timetables signifying "Imperial Service". www.timetableimages.com/i-mn/nw6003a.jpgAFAIK this was the only NWA plane that had the eagle painted on the tail. When the Electras were delivered they were missing the red stripe across the nose; this was soon fixed. i.ebayimg.com/images/i/152387411337-0-1/s-l1000.jpgThe plane is available from simviation.com, just do a search for electra - no vc version exactly as I wrote it above. Frank's other liveries will be available soon.

Somebody (above) asked about the availability of a REEVE ALEUTIAN texture for the GUZMAN L-188 simulation. It "IS" available .... from FLIGHTSING.COM (only .... and among others too) .... And the aircraft base pack is available from SIMVIATION.COM (only) Mark C BOG/CO

Installed the L-188 and a couple of the repaints. Looking forward to Frank's repaints also. Do like the panel a bit more than the Lucairny model which because of my vision, I have a hard time seeing the small numbers. I do have a small issue maybe someone could help with. It seems the engines idle quite high. If I release the brakes with the throttles all the way back, the aircraft immediately begins moving. The slightest increase in throttle causes a considerable increase in speed. Even at idle I need to constantly be applying brakes to maintain a realistic taxi speed. Question is this : Would this be fixed thru controller sensitivities or thru a tweak of one of the cfg parameters ?
Thanks in advance, Mike
