I have recently jumped head first into GW3 and would like to add some airliner AI to my GW world. I was wondering if there are any repaints for the CC AI DC3 available for the US majors during the 30's and 40's. I run the the CC AI pack on my normal FS when I want to break out my DC-7' and Connies but as it was designed for the 50's, most of the US majors no longer flew the DC-3.
Am hunting for PAA, DELTA, EAL, UNITED, etc. If they are already in GW and I am just blind, feel free to point that out.
I'm also on the hunt for any other classic AI, from the Tri-motor to PAA flying boats, any assistance would be appreciated. I have been trolling Flight Sim and Avsim but sometimes their searches are picky.
Thanks - Steve K

I don't know about repaints of the CC DC-3, but there are some suitable repaints of the default FS9 DC-3 at avsim.com or flightsim.com

Hi, And the default DC-3 makes a fine AI aircraft.

Tom, won't it eat my frame rates to use it as AI, or are you inferring that AI is all its good for Any chance I can humbly request some repaints of the DC-3 for the US majors? I would happily share whatever flight plans etc I develop with them.

Unfortunately I don't know of anyone that has time to do it at this point. It is possible to adapt the textures for the default DC-3 to the AI version, but it's a long and tedious process...
Anyone?

Hi,
It's not too terribly hard to learn how to do repaints, especially on the ai dc-3. The best thing to do is just start off with PSP and learn about layers and basic painting. Start with something very simple and easy.
Logos and things like that can usually be found on google image search.

quick note: the default DC-3 is no problem in ai traffic, and there are many great vintage paints for the default bird at avsim. try Dale Deluca's paints, among others, he did a number of good 40s skins.
give them a try. you'll enjoy the look.

Hi,
Yes, I forgot to mention - the DC-3 is not very hard on frame rates at all.

I'd just add that as nice as it may look in the AI role the default DC3 is a bit of a pain for painting. I think it has problems with mirroring on the tail, like most of the defaults. A logo and lettering on the tail will show backwards on one side. Why not use some Cal Classics AI DC3s? They can be painted up nicely. I might look at some paints, though I am not very familiar with the pre-war US air services. There's some AI in the Bill Lyons packs - the Grumman Goose and Golden Hawaii for example, between them have flying boat AI including a "Clipper". EDIT: Without knowing the prewar DC3 colours, is the PanAm paint for the default DC3 on this page www.vintageatc.com/PanAm/PAA_Fleet.html in period? If so, that's one down! These are at AVSIM, and I think all are for the default model; - aa_dc3.zip - American Airlines ca 1940
- aadc3.zip - American Airlines 1939
- dc3s41og.zip - Delta's "Ship 41", 1940
- texture.x.zip - Delta 1940s
I think some are by the Dale DeLuca that Tom mentioned. There's a useful paintkit for the Cal Classics DC3 by Mal Lloyd at the usual spot/s - at least AVSIM in memory serves.

Thanks very much for all the replies and advice. I think I will get started using the default DC-3 as I will be doing a limited amount of AI at my new KMIA from the 30's. I may also work on the Chaulks Watson Island Terminal if I can find a decent photo or two. John, if you decide to give a couple of paints a shot, I would be happy to try and find / forward some photos to you for reference. I'm just looking for late 30's early 40's. If a DC-3 in a 1942 paint shows up at my 1935 airfield the world will not come to an end For what it's worth, here are the 1941 DC-3 and B307 www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/80122167www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/80209925I have recently discovered the 1935 Pan Am and 1936 EAL time tables and am going to build some flight plans around these. For EAL I will do the whole system (it wasn't that big) and for PAA I will do everything that touches MIA/Dinner Key. I'll be happy to share when done.

If you're interested in a AI B307 in shiny TWA and PAA paints, find the FS 2002 Vintage Aircraft Stratoliner by Al Kaiser. It easily converts to AI use by removing the panel and sounds folders.
