I am not finding any advice on the Internet that helps me with this problem so here goes. I have FS9 installed on my Windows 10 computer and on my Windows 7 computer. I prefer to use the Windows 10 machine but that is where the problem shows up. The Windows 7 computer still works fine for now. When I go to select a saved flight "My Saved Flights" does not appear in the flight list. I vaguely recall seeing this before and the program somehow corrected itself - or - I did something that fixed it - temporarily.
When I start FS9 the program starts a flight I had saved at SFO but there is no mention of it in the flight list. If I attempt to save the flight in the "Save flight" area, in the Title of flight box I type in a name, click "ok" and a box shows up reading "invalid flight name. Flight will not be saved.
Anyone??

Hi,
Do you still have the flight plans folder present on your Windows 10 computer? In System 7 it's at:
Users/[your user name]/My Documents/Flight Simulator Files
If you have used my classic language DLL file the last folder name is instead Classic FS Files.
If that folder is missing or renamed, you will not be able to load or save flights.

On my Windows 7 computer I find: Users/ user-name/My Documents/Flight Simulator Files/ and inside the Flight Simulator Files folder hundreds of files whose suffix end in FLT, WX, PLN, FSR. I see no reference to "classic language DLL file or Classic FS Files" but I have no problem saving a new flight if I want.
In the "Select a Flight" window that appears when you start the program under Choose a category, My Saved Flights appears, and after selecting that below in Choose a flight all my saved flights are listed and can be selected.
On the Windows 10 computer I have Users/ user-name/Documents/Flight Simulator Files and again many FLT,WX,PLN files therein. But again, I see no reference to "classic language DLL file or Classic FS Files" Cannot see what flights are available and cannot save one.
Thinking of just copying over everything from the Windows 7 computer to the Windows 10 computer but there are some aspects in the Windows 10 setup I'd like to keep, so I don't know. Thanks for your help.

If you are using the default language file (and I assume you are), then you would not expect to see any classic files, so that's OK.
Try right clicking your FS2004 shortcut and choose Run as Administrator?

Well... not sure but after reading your last post I chose the Run as Administrator option which I had thought I'd likely done long ago. Opened FS9 and My Saved Flights was back where it was supposed to be. Wonder how long it will remain there. As always thank you, Tom.

The answer appears to be that "Run as Administrator" is not the cure. I reran FS9 and "My Saved Flights" was gone again :-(

Have you done the required install into C:/ & NOT into FS9's default C:/Program Files directory? Have you installed the 9.1 update & the 9.1 nocd patch? Are you running in XP Compatibility mode, & is the Run as Administrator box ticked in the FS9.exe properties?

Dave, Do you have a Solid State Drive as your primary C:\ drive? If so do you have FS9 installed on a drive other than C:\ ?

I had a similar problem, but I have FS9 installed on another drive. You might go to “Users/Your Name/My Documents/Flight Simulator Files” to see if there are any files there. If not, try copying your flight files to that directory on your Win10 machine and you should then be able to access them.

Yes, all of my saved flight files - those ending in .FLT - are present in the Flight Simulator Files folder --- I am speaking only of the Win 10 computer. The problem is that "My Saved Flights" no longer appears in the "Select a Flight // Choose a Category window. A few days ago briefly "My saved flights" reappeared with all the saved flights but then the next time I attempted to access it it was absent again. The only way now that I can navigate to an airport is to bring up the default flt then from there choose the airport I want to fly from. Ridiculous! I am unclear what you meant when you said: "try copying your flight files to that directory on your Win10 machine and you should then be able to access them." Which directory? They are already in the Users/Your Name etc folder. This is all so annoying. Sorry to be a bother.

Dave, I should have noticed that you have found flight files in the proper directory of your Win10 machine. It almost sounds like there is or was another FS9 installation on your PC and you need to use the Flight1 Registry Repair tool when you switch between FS9 installs. If you only have the one installation then it could be corrupt and possibly require a reinstall. The fact that you get an “Invalid Flight Name” error indicates something is wrong with the FS9 install and/or the registry. You might try going to the “Install a Flight” page and try loading one of the other standard flights listed there to see what happens. If it works it is because these flights reside in the “Flights” subdirectory of the main FS9 directory and not in the “Users/YourName/My Documents/Flight Simulator Files” directory. You could then try copying your Win7 “Flight Simulator Files” directory to the FS9 “Flights” subdirectory of your Win10 PC. You should then see that directory name on the “Select a Flight” page and be able to load your flights from there. If that works at least you can fly, but you cannot save new flights to that directory. That has to be done from the “My saved Flights” directory, then copied to the “Flights” subdirectory. Still, it will not fix your main problem.

Thanks Larry. Very interesting. Yes I have used the Flight1 Registry Repair tool since 2009. I tried using that a few days ago with no success in solving the problem. So your suggestion to copy the “Flight Simulator Files” directory to the Flights directory within FS9 was on my list of things to try down the way if nothing else to actually fix the problem came along. So I did, and a category labeled "Flight Simulator Files" appeared in the list with all the other categories. Clicking on that brought up all my saved flight files. Clicking on a flight caused the program to display a quasi-error message that was really just information as the picture below shows. And the reason for that was that my user name on the Windows 7 machine is different from the username on the Windows 10 machine. But clicking "OK" to acknowledge the information lets the flight open normally in the program minus the flight plan. So we are making some progress I think. It looks as if I could change the user name on one of the computers so that both are identical I could eliminate the annoying box. The blocked out area showed the username on the Windows 7 machine, different from the Windows 10 computer. But not being very experienced in fooling with the username change process I am reluctant to mess with it lest I foul something else up. But thats a subject for another day. So if I were to add a new saved flight I assume I would have to copy again the Flight Simulator Files sub-directory into the main FS9 folder in order to view the new saved flight. At least I can get to my flights again. "Thank you for all your help." - quoted from Al Haynes, United 232 on approach to crash at Sioux City Iowa, 1989.

OK Dave, good luck. Re your name change on the Win10 PC, just put your Flighsim files into a word processor and do a search and replace on your user name, then copy it back to your "flights" subfolder.
