www.members.cox.net/jaymom3/8ca5.jpg My son is going to be stationed at March AFB this coming Nov. and I am trying to set up a few GA airfields around Riverside, Ca. I am now working on 8CA5 (Pines Airpark) and I dont know what these marking represent. I can't imagine a grass runway with markings. Has it got something to do with how FS9 works? I've seen them before in FS9 but never paid any attention to them until now. Harold

Yep, paint on grass!! Using Lee's ACAFD you can make the paint go away.

Here is a good reference on runway markings, in general: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RunwayKeep in mind that most runways in *our* era rarely had more than the runway numbers and a center dashed line. Major runways may have also had threshold stripes. Hope this helps,

It's been a few month since I have flown over Pines Airpark but if memory serves me right the runway is actually mostly brown dirt-sand.
It's just a bit off to the side from our usual "don't have a lot of time to fly-but need a fix and an airport burger" stop at F70 so I'll try to remember to swing the Saratoga a little wide the next time we head that direction and get an aerial shot of it.
One thing that usually works fairly well is Google Maps to see what the sky view looks like.

Thats what I have been doing Stefan. I understand the symbols but dont understand why Microsoft would use them on this airstrip. I've set up parking spots on 19 airports in the Riverside area for GA traffic and between the smog (using Active sky) and the mountains I'm having quite a time of it. It's fun being retired. Harold

Hi,
Keep in mind that MS used a semi-automated system to create the airport markings. The program didn't know that it may or may not have had markings in real life.
Hope this helps,

Hi Harold,
in that case I invite you to my home field L67. If you are looking for a challenge come see us on a Santa Ana day.
Wind direction varying from 320 to 030 and wind speeds 25 to 45 kts with higher gusts on a really bad day. Learing to fly here means that you are quite familiar with crosswind flying by the time you solo ;D

Harold, in the Riverside area, you may want to consider Flabob. It is a very popular LA Area airport. You can find it at the Old Hangar if you want to expand on it.

Thanks for the info....i have the following.... L65, 52CA, KRIR, KRAL, KHMT, L12, CA89, 8CA5, CA42, L67, KAJO, F70, KCNO, KBNG, 37CA, 17L, KAVX and KCCB. I downloaded scenery for KAVX and it didnt work out too well on my computer. The scenery layers gave it a funny look.
Now to find that "Old Hangar" .
Nope...says the page is no longer available Jesse for the Flabob scenery.

I would sure appreciate it jesse. I'm not sure if my ISP will allow that big of a email but please try to send it to me anyway.
Harold

Glad I could help. There is also a pdf file on the install instructions if you need it. I was surprised to see that Tom had removed it from the Old hangar. Not TG but TC. ;D

I hate to say it jesse but the scenery causes a CTD. I tried to get around the CTD by dropping everything to default but it didnt make any difference. Once I removed the scenery everything was ok again. I have an idea that Vista is causing the problem. I'm going to install the scenery on my laptop which has WinXP Pro and see what happens. Only problem there is the screen on my laptop has hundreds of colored lines runing from top to bottom on it. Cost too much to have it fixed so I just use it for storage. I'll let you know how I make out with it though.

Harold, sorry 'bout that. I'll reinstall it on my Dell XPS 600 and see how it behaves. When I first installed it I was using Windows XP Media (Pro) and it worked okay. I'll see how it works with Windows XP Home.

Well jesse I just learned something that I hadn't been aware of before today. In the past I have always opened an .exe file into a separate folder and dragged and dropped what I wanted into FS9 which is what I did half an hour ago. It is what caused the CTD on both of my computers. Then I decided to just run the .exe on my laptop and it worked perfectly. When I saw the GA traffic taxing I realized my error. And the scenery works perfectly in Vista as well. Sure looks good too. I appologize for the CTD report and I thank you very much for this beautiful scenery.
