I have just received my stand alone flight sim computer back after a motherboard failure. The two drives on the computer have been transferred to another computer and all is running as it should. I had to reinstall FS9 which I have done but when I try to open it I receive an 'Access Denied' box saying the following: "Please login with administrator privileges and try again"
Have never had this before. I should add that the computer is used solely for flight simming and is not connected to the internet. Have looked everywhere but cannot find anything about administrator privileges. When I right click the icon there is a note about Run as Administrator but that Access Denied box still appears.
Appreciate it if someone can help me with this.
John

If you are using Windows 10,you must install the sim into C:\ NOT the default folder. Right click the FS9.exe,select Compatibility, select XP mode & tick Run as Administrator
That should make it work.

No I'm using Windows 7 for my flight sim as it is installed on my old computer.

John, you may want to look up 'access denied windows 7' on the web. Info is readily available on security settings governing this, basically making sure you have access to/full control over specific files & folders. As Tom says: hope this helps.

Thanks Erik. I will try that.
Just had a thought about the installation. I have two drives on the computer, 'C' and 'F'. The 'F' Drive has all of the FS files, Addon Scenery, Aircraft etc. Should the actual installation be on the 'C' drive or the 'F' drive. Could this be the problem? Strangely enough I can't recall on which drive I had the previous installation.

Wouldn't you know it, the problem has fixed itself. I reloaded all of my saved FS files and now the program loads up. But I don't have any sound and the brakes are working in reverse. Problems I'll sort out tomorrow.

You mentioned you have reinstalled FS9 after receiving the computer back. Unless something unusual occured/was invoked during the installation, I would assume the complete FS9 install is on the same drive. If you say Addon Scenery, Aircraft etc. are on F: then I would expect fs9.exe to be on F: as well, in the parent folder that also holds the folders you mention (e.g. F:/FS2004).
Have you tried running FS9 by double clicking the fs9.exe in this parent folder? If that works, just make a new shortcut to that fs9.exe where you want it and all should be good.
BTW, scenery libraries that you manually install to a different drive are fine, as long as the correct entries are made within the FS9 Settings - Scenery menu.
Erik
Edit - P.S.: the size of the default fs9.exe as shown by Windows Explorer is 1362 kB. The no CD patched version is 504 kB, that's the one you need.

Hi Erik I do have it working now and the program opens as it should. For some reason the brakes are showing on when they shouldn't and the signal goes off when I press the brakes. I ticked the boxes to see if that helped but it didn't. I'll see if I can sort it out tomorrow. And then I'll have to see why I don't have any sound. These things are certainly sent to try us.

Glad you got that far now, John. And yes, thou shalt persevere in all things FltSim. ;-)

If you have pedals, in Windows clicking Reset Default for the calibration worked for me to fix the brakes. Then don't calibrate them.

Hi Tom Have everything running okay now. Sorted out the brakes. The only problem is that I don't have any sound which is a computer problem which I'll have rectified next week.
I know this has been asked before but what is the file I have to rename to delete the modern day traffic?
Thanks John

The traffic030528.bgl is in Scenery/World/scenery. Just re-name it as traffic030528.xxx to disable it, you might need it again some day.
