Have recently done a backdate of the Tbilisi scenery from Avsimrus by renaming a number of the .bgl files to give a reasonable appearance of how the airport may have looked in 1960. Final approach to RWY 13. Main terminal building. Touchdown on RWY 13. Taxiway from RWY 13. Apron and airport buildings. Airport aerial.

John, thanks for the tip. Here I easily could remove the unsuitable objects with Instant Scenery. That's not always the case. Even if it's a pity do not use such a remarkable terminal inside . Bernard

Hi Bernard I don't have programs like Instant Scenery installed so do the best I can with renaming the relevant (when I can identify them) .bgl files to remove modern objects. Doesn't always work with every scenery but this one along with a few others have been successful in doing reasonable backdates. Where possible I like to remove modern glass terminals, modern control towers, jet tarmac markings etc. That glass terminal at Tbilisi just didn't fit in the the IL-14s and Tu-104s.

Hi,
BTW, it's pretty easy to remove modern objects from a library BGL file, if that's what the author uses at a given airport.
Save a backup of the library file (do not leave it ending in BGL *and* still in this folder). It's usually a BGL file with a size larger than a few dozen KB. Import this library BGL file into ModelConverterX. Press the Scenery Objects Editor button (on the left next to the green arrows). Click each line, and see what object it is. When you find a modern object, click on Remove Object. When finished, click the red X to close the Editor. Click the Export Scenery button, make sure the drop down box has the correct BGL format displayed, click on the original library BGL name, and click Save. Say yes to overwrite.
Now those modern objects should be gone. If this instead leads to many objects disappearing, restore the original BGL file.
Hope this helps,

Hi Tom Unfortunately I find a lot of the scenery programs bamboozle me a bit so I tend to stay away from them. With Avsimrus sceneries quite a number of them are fairly easy to back date by renaming various .bgl files. The good thing with many of their scenery objects list is that the objects relate to a single item, such as a building, control tower and the like and therefor are easy to remove without affecting other scenery items. Gdansk and Bratislava are two that come to mind that I have backdated in my FS just by renaming .bgl files. And there have been a few others. I do find it satisfying to be able to do these for my own use.
