Have installed the Yellowknife scenery (Yellowknife CYZF 2010 for FS9) by Sidney Schwartz and Peter Ham and am wondering if there is some sort of fix available to bring the lake and terrain to the north of the airport down to its correct height? At the moment it does make using Runway 33 very tricky.
Thanks John

Hi John, I had a look at that Yellowknife scenery and yes the MS mesh bears no relationship to the actual elevations. The view north is pretty awful. The airport elevation is correct but Google Earth shows CYFZ actually at a higher point than all its surroundings except to the north but then only about 25-30' above the airport. And surprisingly my FSGlobal terrain mesh is not much different. Anyway, if you have ADE9 it's easy enough to add a large flatten around the airport and I show below what it can do. If you want my version then send me a PM with your email. Sadly the FS mesh is lacking, particularly with airports next to lakes and mountains. Here's an example of what's possible with programmes like SBuilder but very time consuming so not surprisingly few if any scenery creators bother with surrounding mesh. Sondre Stromfjord BGSF default appearance Edited Let me know if you need help. Bill

Curt Jardey's "YTbases1" includes a Yellowknife City flatten file. It's primerly for use with default scenery, but it could work with other addon too. Just have a try. BWT, some years ago I flattened Sondre Stromfjord too. Bernard

Hi Bill and Bernard Thankyou for your replies. Much appreciated.
Bill, I have sent you a PM, but in the meantime I found Curt Jardey's "YT Bases1" download and installed the Yellowknife Flatten file, and it did the trick. The scenery now looks pretty much as it should and looks similar to your screenshot.
Again, thankyou to both for your help as I have learned something new.
John

I'm fairly sure this scenery was designed to work with UT Can/AK.
It's been so long since this was made and I don't have FS9 installed any more.
Pete.

The scenery now looks pretty much as it should and looks similar to your screenshot. Glad it helped. At least with default scenery the file flattens the whole area, including Yellowknife City. In fact this should be slighty underneath the airport, as shown here in DTG FSW. But I can live with. Bernard
