Thanks John. I watched the video...wow! That was pretty complicated, and I'm not really comfortable with that kind of programming. Too bad there isn't a version of Edit VoicePack that works with newer versions of Windows. I appreciate the quick response, thanks again John.

Thanks John. I watched the video...wow! That was pretty complicated, and I'm not really comfortable with that kind of programming. I don't think I would be, either! I had an old Win 7 machine with Edit Voice Pack and it was great to hear all the right callouts. If you still have your original files from the old machine, you ought to be able to transfer the voice file across. You might not have the facilities to add/edit more call signs, but the EVP software is only a means of editing that file and doesn't have to be present to use it. The file name concerned is USEnglishBig.gvp, found in the Sound directory. Back up your original file before changing anything, of course. John

I do still have that old machine. I will try that, thanks!

It worked John, thank you! I always thought that EVP was needed on the machine to have the callouts. So if I understand, USEnglishBig.gvp is the file where all the callouts come from and EVP just rewrites to that file? Further, if that old Win7 machine still works, I can use it to update the file on it and transfer it to the newer machine? I am just happy to have all the proper terms now as I fly instead of blank call signs.
Thanks again!! Have a great day

Yes to all of those.

Tom, Is there any way you could simply issue the modified USEnglishBig.gvp file for those of us who have Windows 10, or might that be a breach of Microsoft copyright? Ken

That's a great idea, assuming it didn't break any rules like you said. It was a simple copy/paste-the thing that took the longest was getting the old machine working and getting a USB port to actually function. Like me, it is getting old

The main problem is its size, at 348 MB. It's huge.

Tom, I don't want to press this in any way at all. The unmodified file in my Sound folder is 345 mb, so overwriting would hardly increase the size of the installation, and given broadband download speeds those who have broadband could download fairly quickly. It is above the size allowed by Flightsim but below Avsim's 500 mb, providing they have no problem with it being a Microsoft file. If they did there are download sites where it could be made available, perhaps for a short period, Ken

Neither site allows uploads of that file. Zipping it reduced its size somewhat. It will be available here for a short time: www.calclassic.com/Temp/USEnglishBig.zipWARNING! It is 265 MB in size. The related airlines.cfg file is here: www.calclassic.com/Temp/airlines.zipFirst back up your existing USEnglishBig.gvp file in the main Sound folder. This provides the sounds and phrases for ATC. Also back up your existing airlines.cfg file in the main Aircraft folder. This provides the entries in the Select Aircraft/Change menu. Then paste these files into those folders. Enjoy,

Thank you so much Tom. I looked at my sound file yesterday and saw from the date that it was the original MS file. I installed FS9 on this computer which I got last April so that's where my sound file came from. It's iffy that I can recover my modified file from my Win 7 machine. The hard drive is failing. Who knows how much longer it will work.

Thank you Tom,
The Win 7 machine decided it would no longer co-operate, so I downloaded the new file which was almost two years newer than the one from the old machine. Took less than an hour, and now the callouts are perfect! Is this link only available on the forum, or will it be available on the website as well?

You're all welcome. No, only on the forum and only for a short time.
