I would assume that is possible, although you would need to remove the copy in the BASE folder to be sure that wasn’t read when in 1958.

That all seems to work as I had hoped. Herve Sors has made available magdec.bgl's from 1900 to 2020 at 5 year intervals. I've installed 1955 and 1960 in new folders, addon scenery/scenery/magdec 1955/scenery and same for 1960. With the default magdec unticked in the library and 1955 enabled, then slew/spacebar I get a heading of 338 at Seattle (as the 1956 ILS chart shows) in place of the default 340. Leaving the default in BASE doesn't seem to matter.
So a nice addition. Easy to enable the desired period.

It looks like Hervé added the historical magdec download recently since when he produced the 1950 and 1960 file for me, he had to find out what magvar mathematical model to use.
Great that he published the magdec series on his web. Might as well grab the 1955 version for my project (even though for U.S. there was a little difference between 1950 and 1960 magnetic variations).
I suppose that when I compile the U.S. 1958 navaids database, it could be used to create a similar scenery also for FS9 / FSX rather easily. The appropriate magdec.bgl is there already, so... :-)

Just a heads-up: finished putting all the navaids for lower 48 on a map (NDBs in red, VORs in blue, Low-frequency Radio Range in green and there are also some VARs and one Consolan). Now I am enriching the database pictured above with data from other sources to include frequencies, power outputs (to get ranges right), beams and then also need to fine tune the position of the navaids on georeferenced sectionals. Still a fair amount or work ahead but it goes quite well and more importantly it is great fun! Milan

Looks amazing. Cool idea. I'd love that for FS9.

I have just uploaded the addon to flightsim.to flightsim.to/file/71888/golden-age-of-air-travel-u-s-navaids-as-of-1958Let me again thank all involved in this thread for sharing knowledge and ideas. I do appreciate it. Mind, this is a version for MSFS. However, as mentioned earlier I am more than happy to share the navaids and ILS databases in case someone wants to give it a go for other sims too (FS9, FSX, X plane...). Just let me know. Happy landings! Milan
