I've done some more testing regarding the DG gauge, and got some very confusing results. First point to note is that I always start FS9 with the default Cessna at Seatac. If I fly the default Cessna first, it works as expected. If I load the default flight, then switch to the F-27 without flying the default Cessna, the DG works on the ground until I swing onto the runway at which point it freezes pointing west. If I then land the plane, reload it and take off again, the DG works for the first 2 turns, then freezes at whatever directing it's showing after the second turn. I also find that if I change it's direction using the knob at bottom left of the gauge, it also affects the RMI at below right of that gauge. I think that when I have some time, I'll try swapping that gauge for something else.
One other issue. When the panel lights are on, all the gauges have a black square surrounding them. Can this be fixed?
Despite not knowing where I'm headed, I'm enjoying flying this plane. Thanks for your hard work on this Bernie, and I'm looking forward to the Fairchild too.
Cheers, Mike

Since both the DG and the RMI are controlled by the same gyro, it makes sense that changing one will change the other one. I agree a gauge swap is probably called for. I will be using my 2D panel in the plane eventually, of course.

I'd forgotten about changing the direction of the DG affecting the RMI. I haven't used that feature in a while.
But, alas, the plot thickens. I changed the DG from the Cessna, to the one from the CV-340; specifically "Z_DC6KMTG!DIR_GYRO" as this one is known to work with the installed RMI "cv340!RMI" both used in the Convair's VC. Then I did a circuit at Seatac, and once again, the DG froze after the second turn. So there's clearly something else going on affecting the DG, but I've no idea what. 2D panels I've been able to fix if needed, but VC panels are a mystery to me. How some of them work I've no idea. Anyone checked out Rob Richardson's Meteor VC configuration in FSX?? I don't have any panel editing software suitable for VC's, so I'm stumped. What results are others getting with this plane?
Hope someone can assist.
Cheers, Mike

Hi,
I don't see anything obviously wrong with the cfg file. The direction indicator is set to an Electro-Mag Slaved Compass, the correct setting:
[direction_indicators] direction_indicator.0=3,0
And the Electrical system has battery and generator voltages defined.
One thing - perhaps your generators are not turned on and your battery is running out? Look in the overhead panel (on the right) and see if the two generator switches are turned on (up). Also check your Avionics switch and your Battery switch (left).
Hope this helps,

Thanks for your input, Tom. The short story is that it was the lack of generators causing the issue. On installing the plane, I looked for a guide to flying the plane, but there wasn't one. A readme refers the user to a file called "Instructions.jpg", but this doesn't exist. So to start the plane, I just hit Cntrl + E, and it seems this starts the engines, plus switches off the generators. This is a new one on me, so I don't feel quite so stupid. Bernie, can you please provide a user guide to the panel? This would be appreciated. Hope you continue with the development of this plane, because I took it for a very enjoyable flight after this, so I'm really looking forward to the Fairchild version, plus some more repaints on this model. Cheers, Mike

Hi,
Since the flight dynamics are identical to my existing F-27A you can use those files, assuming you have my F-27A installed.
Copy the following files from the Aircraft/F-27A folder to this aircraft's folder:
F27A_check.htm F27A_check.txt F27A_ref.htm F27A_ref.txt
Then edit the plane's aircraft.cfg file by changing in each livery section:
kb_checklists=
to:
kb_checklists=F27A_check kb_reference=F27A_ref
Save the file and reload the plane. Now press F10 and click the check mark box to get the Checklist, giving you complete instructions on setting the plane up for flight, etc. Then click the bottom button for complete instructions on how to fly the plane.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
Another question - what are you using for your prop_slow parts? It seems that you may be using the still prop parts. For a smoother shutdown effect (especially using my slow start/shutdown system) it's best to use the blurred prop parts, or even better a blurred prop that has had all but 4 segments removed, to simulate the slightly blurred props.
Thanks,

I'm looking into doing repaints, and have run into a problem - the passenger windows seem to be too high. Here is a shot of the real plane: and here is the image of the FS model: As you can see, my window stripe is in the correct position - the top of the stripe is the proper distance below the cockpit windows, and the top of the stripe is even with the rear point of the fuselage. But the modeled windows are too high. BTW, the door positions are perfect. I don't know if this can be fixed at this point, but it would make repaints a lot easier. Thanks,

And one more thing. The props should rotate counterclockwise when looking from behind, not clockwise as on most other aircraft. RR had them rotate in the opposite direction, for some reason.

Hi, first, I'm glad to hear that Mike got finaly fixed his DG problem. An Fokker update and the release of the Fairchild model is ready for upload. The problem with the windows I'm aware, but unfortunately I started with the Bonanza texture. The windows there were set a bit higher, that's why. To pull the windows down over the *waist* line means adding lots of polygons by hand. The prop rotation made me dizzy . I took the Fairchild as example. In the front view one can see that the black anti-ice protectors pointing clockwise. In the animation I have the feeling, the blades turn anti-clockwise before they stop. I used the standard animation with a still, slow and blurred prop. Cheers Bernie

I hadn't thought of copying the F-27A's checklist and reference files. That's an easy enough job, so I'll do that as a matter of course with this plane. Thanks for the suggestion, Tom.
I noticed the mis-alignment of the windows with the modeled windows last night. Hope there's a fix for this, but it won't stop me flying this beauty. She's very easy to trim "hands off" at about 205kn IAS, and holds altitude in gentle turns too.
Cheers, Mike

Hi, here now, as an *Easter present*, the pack of the new Fairchild F27A and the revised Fokker 27-200 models: New: Fairchild F27A exterior model Checklist from Tom Gibsons F27A Fixed (Fokker): Spinner, increased the number of polygons to look more *round*. Cargo door now coded as cargo_door, Shift+E+2. Fixing the propeller motion. Missing taxi light and landing lights built into "notches" in the leading edge of the wing, with anti-glare shields. Corrected the transparency of the *inside* hostess and reduced the number of textures. VC, the copilot can now be toggled on/off with the *stewardess* switch on the upper right panel. Important: If there already exists an folder "BB Fokker-27" remove it first, since this is an major update over the old aircraft! www.mediafire.com/download/eypd97i0fwzzokf/Fokker_F27_BB_09.zipHappy Easter Bernie
