Thanks, Tom. The publicity postcard issued by Air France shows it looking like that.

Tom, Are the engines interexchangable with other liveries? If so, what is name of texture file for those four engine covers? I want those shiny engines Regards Aharon

Aharon, The shine is produced by the alpha channel of the texture named fins.bmp. If you were using FS9 you could extract this alpha using the program DXTbmp and then import it into the fins.bmp of any other paint of the type that you have. Then save that texture within DXTbmp and the engines will be shiny. Whether this will work with FSX textures I do not know, because I do not have FSX, but I am sure that others can tell you, Ken

Hi,
The shine will turn out differently in FSX than in FS9. You need to edit the texture and the alpha channel to make it look the same in FSX.
But it wouldn't hurt to try it, Aharon.

Ken and Tom, thanks for your answers.
So are you saying that I cannot export engine covers from one livery to another livery the same way I can export window texture from one DC-6 livery to another DC-6 livery?
Regards,
Aharon

Yes you can. I'm just saying they'll look a bit different in FSX compared to FS9.

Hi Aharon,
Sorry, I misspoke. The cowl textures are on the same texture bitmap as the tail fins, so you cannot just swap them between planes, sorry.

I have now released on Avsim revised textures for F-BGNA and textures for F-BHBH, an Air France Super G which entered service in 1956. The photograph I had seen of F-BGNA lead me to think that the tail fins were painted white when in fact they were bare metal with a high polish - hence the error; the 'paint' and FS9 are accurate enough to show how it arose. This has now been corrected, but there are a number of other minor improvements too. The Air France Super G was a particularly attractive propliner in terms of looks, and it seems a pity that their lifespan was relatively short. F-BGNA is seen just after take-off from Athens Hellinikon, F-BHBH over southern England near London Heathrow, Ken library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=195434

Hi,
Looks very nice, thanks. Just like my pictures. The only tiny nit is that the lettering above the cheat line could be stretched horizontally. But a minor nit, as I say.

Nice repaints indeed. Just be aware that French flag on stearboard side should be mirrored (red/white/blue).

Quite true and rather curious. I can only think that Air France regarded the starboard fin as a sort of flagpole with the flag streaming to the rear, hence the reason why the blue is on the left hand side rather than the right. I am not going to reupload to Avsim to correct this, but will supply the modified tail textures to anyone who lets me have an e-mail address, Ken
