Effectively it isn't that important. I noticed it by pure hazard, and probably no one else would have seen it. You will find a lot of scale models and painted postcards with wrong color orders. And not just limited to French flag. BTW, once there was a thread about this subject: calclassic.proboards.com/thread/6285/inverted-flags-on-fuselage

Thanks for the link. My suggestion on the flagpole was correct, as it turns out. It is true that it is not massively important, but I prefer things to be right.

IIRC a lot of military operators did or even do this too, (edit:) not just to flags I mean. E.g. a roundel divided into three coloured 'cake wedge' sectors will have a certain colour leading in the direction of flight, both sides of the aircraft.
