Do you think the C-130 could be classed as a classic, if what I read is correct the first flight was around 1950-ish? It's just my own personal admiration of this aircraft, I know the C119 Boxcar did a lot of transport work before the C-130, I like those too.

Hi, Certainly the Hercules is classic. It just wasn't used by airlines back then.

Nice one Tom,
I may include a few plus some C-119's & possibly some more Military A/C's, to compliment the MATS stuff.

We've got flightplans at RetroAI for Delta, 1966 (cargo services) www.retroai.org/1960s.htmThey even flew the L-100 into KLAX, so I guess it's also a California Classic Exit runway when able Christian

Thanks John & Christian,
I have the M.Stone C-130 in my collection, plus a few others, I'll investigate further for the repaints.
I used to go on Retroai when I had it all set up on old system, I must bookmark it again, thanks.
I've just put a few C-119's in as ai but I'll build up with the C-130's and a few others very soon.

I use a couple of C-82 Packets as AI, but they've got civil paints. One is TWA cargo and the other is the livery from the original Flight of the Phoenix movie that I've got hopping around the middle east.
I've got a C-119 set up for AI, but I haven't started up the military side of my AI yet.

Hi, But put into airline service just a little too late for inclusion (at this point). I might reconsider some day.

I think what constitutes "classic" as far is what California Classics considers to be a "classic", is pre mid-1963. That makes sense, because none of the scenery or the AI scheduled traffic has been done past that point. The reason, simply, is that as you get later than that, you really leave the propliner era, and enter the jetliner era. In the 1959 to 1962 years that our scenery has been modeled after, you get the greatest mix of propellor driven varients, along with the early non fan jets. As far as I know, no scenery or AI traffic later than June 1963 is or will be created.
The C-130 is a classic, but really belongs on a late 60s early 70s site. It was not included in the AI MATS traffic because it was in very limited numbers by 1962, and was a tactical transport, not really part of MATS. It's why Tom and I decided not to do bombers, fighters, trainers, etc.

WillyThe trouble I have with setting up military ai is I'm clueless on what flew where, any flight plans I've done are purely fictional unless I find the odd plan that someone has done that is supposed to be accurate. Plus a lot of mil flight plans are more modern and include the fighter jets etc.

The Mighty Hercules fleet is probably flying more hours now than ever before and in more numbers than ever before. Many have been modified to use (and build with) equipment that wasn't even dreamed of when the airplane came off the drawing board in 1956. We have employed it in many ways that Kelly Johnson and company never dreamed of.
I'd call it a "modern classic".

Col,
What I've got in mind will be fictional too as I just want to get them up and flying about where I can find one once in a while.

Thanks Willy,
That made me feel better, it's nice to know others do fictional too, I always think it's just me.
On a side issue of the C-130, there is another (NEW) heavy turbo-prop transporter called the A400M, it's a kind of larger version of the C-130 made by Airbus, I have one but it's not flying in Cal Classics.
I started to do a few fictional flighplans last night then realised a lot of my military afcads are still on back-up disks bah! I'll have to sift through to find them and get them installed again, I hope I still have them, it will take a while to get them all back again.
