Hi guys, due to my almost near 50th birthday i'm changing my pc, wishing a new FS2004 smooth noframerate fighting one. Does anyone know if Windows 7 (that i will have with Vista Ultimate) is full FS2004 + addons compatible? Thanks to all.

Most people say it works fine. Keep in mind that there may be some old programs used for scenery development and other things that may not work any more (same as Vista). One is FSHotSFX.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, so probably FDC (Flightdeck Cockpit ) and PFE won't, maybe ActiveSky and Ground Env Pro too.

I think the guideline is that if it works in Vista, it will probably work OK on System 7. If it doesn't work in Vista, it's likely you'll have problems. Most addons still available today have been tested and/or patched for Vista. Searching the web for the program name and Vista (i.e. FSHotSFX Vista) usually turns up most problems, if any. For example: www.flightsimdaily.com/patches/pfe-patched-to-21/I would think that AS and GEPro have been tested and are working with Vista by now. Hope this helps,

Hi, I do have Ground enviroment ,Ultimate terrain Canada and Alaska and also flight Flight Enviroment installed and even i have the NL2000 scenery installed and so far there are no problems. The only thing is that it gives a maybe not correctly installed warning. But that is only when you are installing addons. Just enter that it is correctly installed. The no cd crack is in it and gives no problems I also have the PMDG 737 on it and the flight one Super 80. The DC 6 from Tom also works as usual ;D My regards

I guess I should add a "Designed for System 7" label to the packaging.

A few things to add... A good rule is what Microsoft says in the recommended hardware (*not* the minimum, you'll get lock-ups) is - double it. Another major thing to consider is that while they do say things are compatible or at least possibly so - there is no way their people can check all that. That's what bugs me about Mac users and their superiority complex. Yes, it's very easy to have a more stable system when you OS is proprietary and designed to work with your proprietary hardware and only has a relatively small number of dedicated programs for it. Microsoft has to make Windows work on thousands of different system designs, from the big guys like Dell or Gateway to the home-builders, support many configurations and all this software. It's not perfect and it's not always going to work for one person as it does another, because your systems are different. For the record, I am more impressed with Windows 7 than Vista, although Vista ran well for me for quite some time. I'm still staying with XP Pro and FS9 until Microsoft gets done with the inevitable 2,000 updates that will be coming. I have been running XP Pro SP2 on my Dell XPS 400 since 2006 - every time I turn it on and check Windows Update, there are "updates available", some of which will not install on a fully-licensed and authenticated installation. (In fact, I own 10 licenses - which cost me about a grand to obtain - it is more than annoying to say the least, especially since the systems are spread between Oklahoma City, Chicago, and Cincinnati.) Don't waste your money on any new copy of Windows until at least the first Service Pack has come out, it'll save you time. But at least all the updates are free...
BTW, I have had Windows 7 since March (and, yes, it is legal), and it is better than Vista - which I think was more a "half-step" (a nice term) like ME than anything else - I'm still not 100% on it, but it could be better than XP Pro, which I still feel is their best so far...

I agree whole heatedly with Kristopher, I'll wait before jumping into Windows 7 and it certainly will not be with a minimum spec system. Always use the "recommended" specs or greater and that's true of nearly all games as well.

My question would be: What effect does it have on performance. I have VISTA, and since I turned off about 20 resource using, unneeded programs, it works fine, except, it still uses about a gig of resources. Has anyone noticed any improvement in performance with "7". I can max my sliders with my current system, but sometimes (New York, high traffic), my FPS will drop to 12 - 15. Not all that bad, but unless it improves performance, its just candy.

I'm siding with Kris on this one. I have had my Dell XPS 600 since it was introduced and although I dropped XP Home for XP Professional, that is the only change made. I am quite happy with FS9 and do not plan on switching to 7. I have Vista on my laptop, but I only use it once in awhile if I happen to be on a cruise ship or on the road.
I ran the 7 compatibility check on the Dell, and there were several areas where I would have to make changes. No thanks.

That's what I thought. So far I've heard nothing about improved performance, just streamlining. I've already streamlined my VISTA (by necessity). If my new system hadn't come with VISTA, I doubt if I would have left XP. I don't see "7" in my future until I hear of performance improvements (from forum members, NOT Microsoft or other non-simmers).
