we reside two blocks from lake washington, and down the lake from Kenmore Air, so we get the Big Round Radial sound from the Beaver floatplanes that boom in and out of the Kenmore facility all day. Nice, comforting noise.
No other classics of late, but hey this is seattle, you never know.

Martin Mars "Hawaii" is probably the most impressive classic I have seen flying, and I was lucky enough last year to get a tour by her Captain on a down day ;D ;D
Aside of that there is the C-53 out of Riverside that visits my base at L67 on occasion. Many T6s fly in to vist Judy Scholl. And last but not least depending on what he is flying that Saturday Joe's C-195 , Stinson Gullwing SR7, Waco or J3. Then there is the Klaers BE-18, one of the nicest I know.
Of course before the city started to close the airport (now in limbo for at least another year) we had WestPac restaurations on the field with "In the Mood" the B25J regularly flying in the pattern along with Al's P-47. And then of course there were the customer planes..... ;D ;D For example a flight of 5 P-47s in formation with "In the Mood" and a P-38 and a P-51 in trail ;D ;D ;D And all that on just a regular Saturday.

We recently had the annual classic air show at Pogreba Field at Three Forks. One of the locals had his BT-13 there which I am familiar with, but across the taxiway was what I thought was an identical aircraft until I looked at the engine plaque and it said R-975 Whight Whirlwind. I wasn't aware that BT-13s had Whirlwinds so when I got home, I looked it up in my Jane's and discoverd that there is also a BT-15 which did have the Whirlwind installed. The funny thing about this engine is that the pushrods must have been in back of the engine instead of the front, because they weren't visible. I found lots of pictures of Whirlwinds and all of them had the push rods up front. There was a 1928 Travel Air there also and the Whirlwind had its push rods up front. Had a great time there with round engines abounding.

BTW, the Mars is back in Southern California for the Station fire, apparently. One half of the entire Angeles National Forest has burned - wow.

During the weekend a Lancaster flew over the flat our son lives in East Enfield, perhaps from an airshow at Southend Andy.

We did fly the Saratoga over some of it last night making sure to stay well above and outside of the fire TFR. In the dark of night this is quite an eerie sight....but in a way still quite fascinating.

Not exactly a prop, but I saw a Lockheed Jetstar on approach to Oakland, CA airport last Thursday afternoon. In all my years of plane spotting and watching, have never seen a live one in the air so for me, was quite a thrill.

Yeah, gotta love the Jetstar, especially the original ones before the Stage III noise reducers were installed. A few years back, I had one visit the airport I worked at for a mid-continent fuel stop at about midnight. Working graveyards at a lonely airport this was a pleasant surprise. When it came time to leave the crew asked about our noise restrictions, to which I truthfully replied, "We don't have any. This time of night no matter what flies out of here, even a glider, we have one lady that will call and complain so don't worry about it." The pilot kind of grinned then said, "Well, if they're going to complain anyway, might as well have a reason." Normally, I don't go to the edge of the AOA (Airport Operations Area) which is the DO NOT EVER CROSS FOR ANY REASON line by the taxiway, but for this I did. They went to the end of the runway, held the brakes and brought the power up to full. After holding it at full for about 20 seconds, they let go and did a nice full power, shallow climb out of the field. I could still hear them 5 minutes after they departed, needless to say I didn't answer the phone for the rest of the night.

I am not sure if he still owns it or not...but Michael Dorn who played Worf on Star Trek the next Generation flew a Jetstar and happened to parked right next to us on the ramp at San Luis Obispo. After making a few nice comments about our recent re-paint of the Piper he also invited me for a quick tour of his rides front office....not quite the Enterprise....but close enough ;D ;D

Yeah, I saw Michael Dorn on a Discovery Channel type documentary on business jets, and he showed it off. Nice.

Michael Dorn used to own a T-33 also. Wonder if he still does?
My grandmother used to be the exec secretary for the CEO of Lockheed Georgia Company, which built the C-130, C141, C5, etc. Back in the early 70's Dan Houghton (CEO) used to fly a in a company jetstar regularly to the UK because of the difficulty with Rolls Royce in supplying engines to the L-1011 line in Palmdale. He used to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor of the jet!
