Last Sunday, I was reading an article on the Mustangs of the Swedish Air Force, when all of a sudden I heard a familiar Rolls Royce engine. I looked outside just in time to see a glimpse of - yes - a Mustang on its way to beat up the local field, and for once, I managed to take a shot of it as well.
By the way, my local airfield attracts a lot of classics. It has a museum dedicated to the SV-4, pretty much a "resident" Spitfire, is occasionally frequented by a "Colt", and two or three times per year by a Dakota (it's due again this weekend). Another familiar and comforting sound is that of Stearmans and Harvards - pretty much every weekend when the weather's good. And lately, there's been a Beaver as well. And Ercoupes.
Other occasional visitors (though much rarer) are the DC-6A, Junkers Ju-52 and B-25. Ten years ago, during one fly-in, the apron was pretty much occupied by a DC-4, the MATS Connie, a PBY-6, a Spitfire, a Texan and some SV-4s - the memories...

Live near McCarron in Vegas. Closest I get to a classic is a AA MadDog 80.

Sunday 27th Sept 2009, about 16:00Z:
a yellow Beech Staggerwing heading north over Portsdown Hill (Hampshire, UK), presumably on its way home from EGHN (a day at the seaside?) or EGHJ (lunch at the Propellor Inn?).
Looked good, and sounded marvellous!

With all the fires here in L.A. I don't even run out to see the neptunes and Electras anymore, Well....... yes I do! I used up a tank of gas searching for the Mars flying boat but never saw it.
