Still a long way to go.....using the CB-17 model with spinners, right now it does not have cargo doors due to this. Detail work to go....I am tweaking the alpha right now. These birds were HIGHLY polished and i want to capture that. Trying to make it as realistic looking as i can. I really like these aircraft as they were so meticulously kept. Here are a few previews.....

Managed to get it slapped onto the cargo/spinner model so i can have cargo doors. I will also probably do a more rugged looking version of the MATS variety with some day-glo orange panels too. Like those a LOT!!!
Im not 100% sure the engine combo is accurate, but i want the doors and the newer model for the textures etc.

Looks very nice indeed.
The "classic" DC-6A uses CB-17 engines, and should match the C-118A's flight dynamics perfectly. If you are after a Combi version that is as close as you can get.
However, most C-118A's didn't have football ADF antennas. So you could use the "modern" DC-6BF model with the classic DC-6A flight dynamics and this would give you a pretty accurate full freighter version.
Hope this helps,

Took your advice on the football antenna's Tom, thanks. She is getting there....I normally am not thrilled with alpha channel stuff, but this seems to capture that immaculate gleaming look some of these birds had. its tough to get the right blend and photo-real is just plain a pain in the arse to get right with so much fuselage. Anyway..here is the latest, still got detail work to do and do the insignia on the wings.... I am also working on the wing alpha channels to attempt to get the multi-hued panel effect. Wont go too far with this, but Im having fun painting this one so its worth the effort.

Oh - that is so superbly lovely ... looking forward to it. Don't want to get too ahead of myself ... but might you consider a future R6D-1 ... with that paint, you're 3/4 of the way there ... just a thought.
Fantastic work.

Thanks guys...this is the bird ive been looking at.....I dont have any "side" shots that are good enough to do the fuselage in photo real yet, but Im working on that. Im also probably not good enough with PSPro to attempt it. I need to learn how to use the clone tool/brush in order to do this.

Nice plane. Note that in the second photo you can see that there is some kind of non-shiny paint used on the nacelles and on the wing next to them. This is for corrosion resistance from the exhaust. In the first photo you can see that this paint is on the wing outside of the nacelles, and not the inside. Also, it appears it may not be applied to the nacelles in the first photo (probably taken at different times?).
Hope this helps,

Yeah they are..bright white..the wheels..I have enhanced those quite a bit. As to the nacelles, I think they may have that band of light grey corroguard from the nacelle aft..but I cannot find a proper photo of it. It also may be just that the leading edges were highly polished and not the other areas. its hard to tell. I can probably just alter the color slightly and the alpha for that Tom..good eyes.

Other than some minor detail work and adding a window or two this is probably done. Have to redo the alpha channels for the lightmaps too. I tweaked the alpha channels for the wings a bit more..subtle changes really, but I think its a bit less chrome looking now. I use the ENB series mod for the shaders and the background lighting so sometimes it looks a bit different than what you will see. This latest shot is with all that off so i can get a look at what folks who dont use it will see. There are some minor model things which make it very hard to match color differences on the wings so Im not going to go much farther with what we discussed before....that piece on the leading edge is a Biatch to line up!!! I am really pleased with how this one is turning out, been wanting to do it for quite a while now. Any other critiques fire away! I dont mind.....I will work up a few other textures that have simliar schemes to this. Next up is a MATS bird in all its fluorescent orange Glory!
