apologies if this has been answered already.... I have been using FS9 exclusively, but only now (I know, late starter) dusted off FSX just to see how it feels, but I want calclassic traffic in FSX. Before I download everything, I just wanted to know if CA59 will work in FSX (I will get to the scenery part of it later-I just want my propliners). THanks in advance, Mark

Hi,
I run the classic traffic in FSX and it works OK. Two things though.
1. The traffic BGL files are in FS9 format, which will prevent any FSX formatted traffic files from loading. If all you want is classic traffic this is a good thing. However, the traffic will also operate off by one day, so you might see weekday traffic on a weekend - not a big deal. You can convert these files to FSX format using AI Flight Planner if you really care about such things.
2. The blurred props of some planes will appear rather dark. These could be replaced by the typical FSX replacement textures found in other aircraft or on the web.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom, I just have one more question... the Setup file for each will correctly find the right FS installation? And all will go in the right places in FSX? I have everything set up perfectly for FS9, but never attempted to install the CalClassic files into FSX before....

No, you will have to press the ... button during the installation and point it to the MAIN FSX FOLDER (the one with fsx.exe in it). Then move all folders from the FSX/Aircraft folder to the FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes folder (unless you have activated the FSX/Aircraft folder). This is true for all my FS2004 installers.
I actually activated a separate folder called FSX/AI Aircraft and put them all in there. Makes things neater.

If you mean using the "Scenery Library...Add In" process...I can't get that to work. Just won't accept adding the "aircraft" folder. I also tried your idea of creating a FSX/AI Aircraft folder to put them in but it won't allow me to do anything with it. Can you give me a little more about how to make this work. Thanks,

Hi,
In FSX (unlike FS9) you can have the sim access multiple aircraft folders.
In the fsx.cfg file, find a section that looks like:
[Main] User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
This specifies the places that FSX will look for the various "vehicles" that it will load (including aircraft).
What I did was add a line at the bottom so it looked like this:
[Main] User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc SimObjectPaths.6=AI Aircraft
Now it will also look in the folder FSX/AI Aircraft for my AI aircraft. You could change that path as desired.
Hope this helps,

Yes it does...thanks. I either didn't remember this little trick (most likely scenario) or did not know it before. Although, on my old computer I see that it was in the fsx.cfg file.

Hi guys!
Who has the ready traffic of the 50-60s for the FSX? I tried to deal with the traffic of the CentralClassic, but I did not succeed. I really want to fly with the traffic of those times.

Hi,
The classic AI traffic is FSX compatible. What is your problem?

Hi Tom!
Thank you for responding quickly! Please tell me which files I need to download for traffic and where to put them (Word -> scenery)? And which the AI aircraft for FSX I have to download and where to put them? A friend wrote to me that he could not see CalClassic aircraft in FSX.

Hi, The text files included with the zip files give you step by step instructions. Basically you need to: 1. Download files 1 through 9 from: www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htm2. Install them as described in the instructions for FS2004, except when the installer asks for a folder to install into, press the ... button and choose your main FSX folder (i.e. the one with fsx.exe in it). 3. Once you have them all installed, look in the FSX/Aircraft folder. Cut all the folders from that folder and paste them into the FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes folder. 4. Now follow the instructions in the text file in file #9 (the traffic files) to add three layers to your scenery library - 1957, 1959, and 1962. Leave only one checked as active. Also decide what you are going to do with the default traffic (your choices are specified in that text file). Note that with FSX you also have to consider step #6 below. 5. Some have asked whether they should download and install file #10; since FSX airports are different I usually suggest they don't. 6. Note that since these traffic BGL files are in FS2004 format, NO FSX format traffic BGL files will display any traffic - they are suppressed. You can use AI Flight Planner to convert my FS9 traffic BGL files to FSX format and these will allow other FSX traffic files to generate AI traffic (if desired). Here is the AI traffic at the 1962 LAX in FSX to prove it works: Hope this helps,

Yes, good news, all works OK with this method, until Prepar3D V3.4 (that bring the wonderfull CC AI traffic, from FSX, FSX-SE, P3D 1.x, P3D 2.x, P3D 3.x Bad news, for Prepar3D V4, as is a 64 bits simulator the part that not work correctly, are the AI aircrafts models (not all, and problems, mostly on animations) As Tom, said, before, sadly there are not a "magical solution", we need to convert model after model, to AI FSX native format. If someone, want to help with that, will be great!!!! FSX native AI aircraft format, are compatible, with all FSX and P3D familiy, including, P3D V4. Cheers

The AI traffic worked fine for me in FSX. Some very good tips and advice about separate folders etc very helpful. Default FSX traffic went in the bin used to annoy the hell out of me anyway.
Again all I can say is thank you to everybody who as contributed to this body of work, outstanding. I cannot imagine how much time and effort went into this and it like everything else done and thought about here at Cal Classic is very much appreciated.
