Hi, Thanks all for the kind words. Glad you are enjoying them. Edd is right - if we get no feedback on the alternate VC textures nothing more may happen with them... What we need now is an opinion - are they improved over the originals (in the 240's) or not? The 440 with renamed VC textures has now been uploaded. Marv, In future please resize your images to 800 x 600 pixels or post them in the Screen Shots forum. Thanks, I like the clean look to the upgraded vc.

As one of those who now can not live without a good VC anymore after being spoiled by the L-1649, the new DC-6 and soon the L-1049 ...I too hope the VC improvements will continue on these airplanes. One obvious question that comes to mind relates to the gauges being used in the 2D vs the VC panels. I know it's no easy task to add more "display" area...and impossible if the original source file is not available...but can the 2D gauges be used on the VC or are there going to be any issues related to the new FDE

I started flying from the vc with FS2004 and now, with FSX, it's the only way I'll fly. Out of desperation I repainted and rearranged gauges, resized the gauges and added a few so that I could have my commonly used controls in the vc. This is the non-historic, but reasonably plausible modernized vc panel I made.

Hi Edd and Tom,
I've downloaded the CV-440 again just to compare VC's. My opinion, for whatever it's worth, is that of the 3 planes, I like the look of the 340 the best. It is more akin to the new DC-6B VC with a clean panel background, and if this one ends up anything at all like that, then no matter how long it takes, it will be worth it. The VC in the Doug gives me more of a feeling of being there so it would be nice to see that replicated if at all possible. My thanks to you for trying to improve the current version. As you say, it's a bit old now. Also, agreed that the Convair is a beauty. I've been flying it since FS2002 days and still get heaps of enjoyment from it.
One other little comment to all - if you fly a piston engined Convair, then jump into the CV-580, you realise what a hot rod it is. These new FD seem to accentuate that feeling even more. It's like taking that wheezing 4 pot out of your car, and dropping in a V8!!!. Sweet ;D.
Cheers, Mike

Hi,
stansdds, that VC looks almost flyable.
I have long past stopped doing serious GMAX projects (like all new VC's), so I won't be the one improving these VC's beyond new gauge layouts. Pre Carpal Tunnel syndrome stopped that. The DC-6B got done due to Jens' generosity. I like stansdds' version above; perhaps I'll copy that with period gauges, eventually.
Yes, you do notice how much more power you had with the 580, I agree. But it also shows how much easier it was to adjust power in pistons vs these turboprop engines. That's why some people used a constant power approach in the 580, as now in the handling notes. We noted that Jens' Britannia has the same characteristic, and would benefit from a constant power approach as well.
BTW, the button nose model has been added to the CV-240 CA-18 folder, and will be available at release.
Thanks,

I'm glad everyone likes my panel effort. I'd sure like to see more panel area available as what I have done has created a very compressed and crowded panel.

Thanks Tom ( & others ) for the improvements to the Convair line.
Stansdds , I like what you've done to the VC , I hope you'll make it available when it's completed.
Tom , I like the VC in the 340 model with the blank panel back ground.
Is it possible to use the relevant cockpit or panel bmp from the 340 in the 440 or the 580 ( and rename it ) to give the same blank background ?
Thanks again.
Pete.

You can use the 340 VC textures in the 240 and 440 by renaming them. I don't know if they will work in the 580 - that uses completely different textures.
BTW, next time you post an image, make sure it is less than 800 pixels wide - more than that messes up the forum format for some users - thanks.
Hope this helps,

Usable area of the 240, 340, 440 cockpit is 1024 x 512. The usable area of the 580 cockpit is only 512 x 512, making the 580 cockpit severely limited.

A little update. I'm using gauges that are found at CalClassics (Convair and DC-6), Jens' DC-6 package, and stock MicroSoft FS9/FSX gauges.

For the others .... copy the "340-3.bmp" into the 440 texture folder and rename it "440-3". While we're on the subject of the 440 .... are there many repaints out for it ? Pete.

Hi, If you do a search at AVSIM for cv-440 you will get 19 repaints. Other good searches to do are convair 440, and convair metropolitan. Hope this helps,

Hi,
OK, they have been released and are on my site. The VC gauge layout improvements have not been done; that is for a later release. The manual superchargers are now available, but read the text carefully - we found yet another bug in FS9 and the result is that this gauge degrades the flight model somewhat. FSAviator suggests you do not activate them.
Thanks for your help,
