If regressing MSFS or even X-Plane 12 is a straight forward process like what I discovered for FS9, then I don't see any reason why anyone wouldn't upgrade as long as they had the two "ingredients" I came up with:

I try to do "universal models/scenery" that i can put on MSFS and X-Plane 12, it's not so easy, so i decided to stop developemnt
for X-Plane 12.
"Technically", is even more quick, easy and stright, to regressing MSFS than all the other simulator i worked. (FS91/FSX/P3D).
At least if we not think about "photoreal ground backdating", the SDK allow a lot of thing directly.
(geomodif, placing forest, meshes, etc), is more easy with MSFS SDK, really better and friendly.
After said that.... the planet earth, is big... so in any simulator we want to change things to "backdating", is a huge,
huge task, so, we can only, modify some places of the world...
Redwing 1935 do a wonderfull job backdating USA/France/Germany, aircrafts, night lighting, boats, vehicles in airports, i think they
spent a lot of time studyng how MSFS work, to modify all that.
When i will work on my <VINTAGE> seaplane bases, at Montevideo and Buenos Aires, i will do, some "backdating", and create some
landmarks, near my seaplane bases.
For hardware needed for MSFS, is not to high... (as MSFS was made thinking about XBOX), if you put all slider at max, ok is
heavy, but is not obligatory, at all, even with all sliders at minimal, MSFS look better than all the others simulators of the
family.
I repeat, I use a lot of simulators, i not uninstalled yet anyone, even if it's true, i spent most of my time on MSFS.
I am happy, because, MSFS is a great FS WITH AN 100% OPEN AND WONDERFULL SDK.
A great simulator without and open and wonderfull SDK, will be less interesting for me.
They are supporting "officially" Blender, a free excelent Modeling 3D Software (not only 3DSMax)
The unique "problem", is that MSFS is updated each months, with new things, this is great for users,
but for developers, as the platform is not static, sometimes, it's necesary to do "fix", to geomodifs or exclude,
if news items arrive, and break some scenerys, (fill with others objects)
(in a developer way, simulators "deads" (as FS91 or FSX), with no more updates, is better, you make a thing, you are
sure that will work always)
One thing, that MSFS not have yet, is an Traffic AI SDK.
It's a pitty, because for the moment, we can think about make a Calclassic Traffic AI MSFS...
but, i think, this will change, in a near future.
