Oh my! What a wonderful product. You guys should be proud! And to think it is freeware. I am humbled. Just had her up for the first flight. I am still drooling! All I can say is thanks, guys. Somehow, thanks doesn't seem to do this justice.

FSX Prop textures ? I am using the prop textures that came with the original download ( Yellow tipped) I'd like to put in the blue red textures instead, I've tried to follow instructions to copy the source file with its' name .bmp or .dds, Regardless of what I do I get black textures when I load the plane; I'm sure the problem lies in the naming of the texture, ...A few minutes later...I just tried again and something strange is going on? I have a .dds texture file in there that is supposed to give me blue and red tip on the props. When I look at the plane from the front and zoom in I can see the props have yellow tips...And when I look from behind I see the blue red tips. I took away the .bmp and .dds from the title name, otherwise intructed or they display solid black ???I see now the colored tips in front and behind the props! Wow!
Can anyone assist?

I hate to be first but here we go. Is anybody having a crash to desktop when switching views in FSX? The vc cockpit works just fine until I switch to another view but when switch back the sim locks up and crashes. I tried the novc version but that does it as well, in fact to get the novc version to work I have to load the plane with 2d panel instead of vc. Otherwise it seems to work well even the wipers work! edit Ithink ifixed it. I found no bmps or folders in the novc panel folder. I copied over from panel folder all files except the panel cfg and it does the trick so far. Actually it is happening again and seems to be a texure loading problem. I think now that it must be my computer not a problem with the A/C. Definitely flightsim not Starliner 2.1. Its doing it with other A/C. Even with 2.0 connie that I put back on. Might have to reinstall FSX

Hi, Is the prop disk texture file inside the texture.N7307C folder named either propdisk.bmp or propdisk.dds? And do you have only ONE of those in the folder? You cannot have both. BTW, wonderful plane - I'm seeing no problems in FS9. My only request would be for a 2D widescreen panel, to go along with my new 22" widescreen monitor. But using the very nice VC is a great alternative. Hope this helps,

Thanks to all - a very nice piece of work!
I do have a question(s) concerning the2D & VC views. When in the 2D cockpit when I look forward left, I seem to be sitting too far back. I can see outside at about a 45deg angle, but moving past that to the left it is just blackness. While in 2D when I look 90deg left, I can see the oustside but nothing of the cockpit structure. While in 2D When I look rear left I can see the wing/engines, but once again no cockpit structure. In the VC I seem to be sitting way too far back when looking anywhere except straight ahead.
I have gone through the readme and did find the following:
"Passenger and pilot wing views can be displayed from either the 2D panel or the VC panel by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Num7, Ctrl-Shift-Num9, Ctrl-Shift-Num1, or Ctrl-Shift-Num3. By editing the panel.cfg you can choose between a range of alternate angles.
In the aircraft.cfg a choice of VC eyepoints is provided in section [views]."
Any idea of what figures to use for editing? I fly 99% of the time from the 2D cockpit in everything. Also Is the reference to the [views] section of the aircraft cfg a typo?
Cheers, Scott KJMS (or thereabouts)

No, the Views section is correct. Here is the one in the Starliner:
[Views] eyepoint=38.1, -1.55, 1.99 // Tom's setting //eyepoint=40.2, -1.350, 1.94 // VC mvd right a bit //eyepoint=39.7, -1.730, 1.94 // Bill: center of left seat and back a bit //eyepoint=40.2, -1.73, 1.94 // VC center of left seat. Best for TrackIR.
The first number is forward/back, the second is left/right, and the last is up/down.
The angled views in the 2D cockpit are controlled by the panel.cfg file:
[VIEWS] VIEW_FORWARD_EYE=0.000, 0.000, 0.000 VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=10.500, 0.000, 0.000
VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=6.000, 0.000, 45.000
VIEW_RIGHT_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_RIGHT_DIR=4.000, 0.000, 90.000
VIEW_REAR_RIGHT_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_REAR_RIGHT_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 135.000
VIEW_REAR_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_REAR_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 180.000
VIEW_REAR_LEFT_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_REAR_LEFT_EYE=2.500, 0.700, 9.000 VIEW_REAR_LEFT_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 225.000
VIEW_LEFT_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_LEFT_EYE=3.000, 1.000, 9.000 VIEW_LEFT_DIR=5.000, 0.000, 270.000
VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_ZOOM=1.000 VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=5.000, 0.000, 315.000
View_forward_right_up_windows=39 //Pass Seat view VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_UP_EYE=1.95, 0.40, -9.250 //Tom's setting //VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_UP_EYE=1.925, 0.400, -9.750 // Bill: center of left seat and back a bit VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_UP_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 71.000 //Ctrl-Shift-9
VIEW_REAR_RIGHT_UP_WINDOWS=42 VIEW_REAR_RIGHT_UP_EYE=3.000, 0.500, 3.000 VIEW_REAR_RIGHT_UP_DIR=9.000, 0.000, 147.000
VIEW_REAR_LEFT_UP_WINDOWS=41 VIEW_REAR_LEFT_UP_EYE=0.100, 0.450, -7.400 VIEW_REAR_LEFT_UP_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 255.000
VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_UP_WINDOWS=40 VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_UP_EYE=-1.800, 0.900, -31.000 VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_UP_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 330.000
In the DIR lines the last number is the left/right angle of view (the others are up/down and rotation, I assume), and the EYE lines work like the eyepoint does (not sure about which number is which, though). The reason you don't see anything at all from the left view is that you are outside the plane, I think.
Hope this helps,

And you are too far back in the VC so you have a proper view of the panel. Any closer and the panel is obscured.

Hi Tom: Your question:Is the prop disk texture file inside the texture.N7307C folder named either propdisk.bmp or propdisk.dds? And do you have only ONE of those in the folder? You cannot have both. yes the prop disk texture is inside the texture.N7307C in .dds format. I can see a very pale blue-red band on the tip od the props from the front, from behind the colors are darker. And I only have one propdisk texture.

Scott,
If you are using 2D 99% of the time, you probably want to set the aircraft.cfg [views] to either,
//eyepoint=38.1, -1.55, 1.99 // Tom's setting eyepoint=40.2, -1.350, 1.94 // VC mvd right a bit //eyepoint=39.7, -1.730, 1.94 // Bill: center of left seat and back a bit //eyepoint=40.2, -1.73, 1.94 // VC center of left seat. Best for TrackIR.
or slightly further back,
//eyepoint=38.1, -1.55, 1.99 // Tom's setting //eyepoint=40.2, -1.350, 1.94 // VC mvd right a bit eyepoint=39.7, -1.730, 1.94 // Bill: center of left seat and back a bit //eyepoint=40.2, -1.73, 1.94 // VC center of left seat. Best for TrackIR.
The first number, for example 40.2, sets your distance from the panel in VC mode but will also affect your side views in 2D. You might think you're too close to the panel but actually it's the effect of not having the peripheral vision you would have in real life. Other people might prefer to be further back.
The designers have deliberately left out the cockpit window surround in the left and left rear views using 2D. This is so that people who prefer the default VC setting don't just see the cockpit wall. It is possible to add bitmaps as used for example in the L-049 Constellation panel.
I strongly recommend you try the VC panel as well. It's a masterpiece. Even with the above settings for 2D you can still alter your position when flying in VC with Ctrl+Enter/Ctrl+Backspace.
Bill

Thanks to all for the tips and replies! I will play with the settings and add the bitmap views from the 049.

Bernardo,
I understand the yellow-tipped prop texture does work for you, only you want it red white and blue. Checking the file size I think this is propdisk_RB.dds in the FSX prop textures folder. Looking at it using Martin Wright's DXTBmp program you get the info that it is dxt5 dds format with 7 Mips. All that needs to be done to get you your coveted colors is to exchange the 24bit component by, say, the propdisk contained in the house livery texture set (DXTBmp provides that editing option). Then re-save as dxt5 dds with mips, and you should have what you want. Except when I do just that the resulting file size is different from that of propdisk_RB.dds, hence will not work for you. Perhaps there is a repainter out there who is more successful and can help you out?

Hi, Keep in mind that TWA did not use painted prop tips - they had plain metal ones...

Hi Scott I am using these two settings for the views to get a bit of the cockpit structure when looking back at the engines out of the pilots seat by either pressing the NUM pads 1 key or an assigned yoke button
aircraft.cfg
[Views] //eyepoint=38.1, -1.55, 1.99 // Tom's setting //eyepoint=40.2, -1.350, 1.94 // VC mvd right a bit eyepoint=39.7, -1.730, 1.94 // Bill: center of left seat and back a bit //eyepoint=40.2, -1.73, 1.94 // VC center of left seat. Best for TrackIR.
panel.cfg (the lines below are only the ones I changed and of course you don't need the //SW....that's just for reference that I changed them
VIEW_REAR_LEFT_ZOOM=0.55 //SW VIEW_REAR_LEFT_DIR=0.0, 0.0, 220.0 //SW VIEW_REAR_LEFT_EYE=-0.25, 0.0, 0.35 //9.0 //SW
This ONLY works on the VC model....but it does work from that models 2D panel as well and you don't need any additional bitmaps.
I don't have any cockpit structure when looking directly left...as you would be looking right out the window and would not have much of the structure in the field of view...I guess.
