Texas Airports 1962 *RELEASED* 02/07/2014

Hi All

After making Austin's Mueller Airport, then El Paso...and along with Dan French's Houston and San Antonio great sceneries, Texas territory is coming to live...a US portion that was almost lonely on the whole classic scenery ...

Taking the suggestion from Mike Stevens I will continue building more texas airports, as many as I can in the meantime I find pictures, postcards and graphic material...until complete a Texas1962 package.

Up to now, airports with detailed terminals that I'll Include on the package are:

-KELP - El Paso Intl.
-KABI - Abilene Regl.
-KLBB - Lubbock Regl.
-KAMA - Amarillo AFB / English Field
-KCRP - Corpus Christi Intl.
-KSJT - San Angelo Regional
-KTYR - Tyler Punds Field
-KBRO - Brownsville Muni
-KHRL - Harlingen Muni *
-KLRD - Laredo Muni *
-KFTW - Forth Worth Meacham Field **

* actual airport will be backdated as former AFB layout
**was no longer in use by commercial airlines by '62, However it will be included.

I'm sure many of you are wondering why I didn't included KDAL on my list...well it was initially on plans, I began to gather information but then I read on another thread that AL Courtney was already working on that one...that's good news...I'll be looking foward to it....maybe we can merge it on my package, don't know yet...meanwhile let's get full throttle on the rest of the airports.


here's two first previews of Abilene and Lubbock terminals, I may not be a professional on this but I make the best I can ;D....sorry for the low quality but I have an old PC haha




P.S.: some airport runway layouts have been difficult to find..(except for KELP, KLRD, KHRL, KAMA)....so If anyone has approach and airport charts of the ones above mentioned please let me know!...any help is appretiated.

Thanks all for your comments...and Tom, thanks a lot for the diagrams...they are very helpful....

answering some questions....
-KELP was going to be released separately, but I decided to keep it for this package.

-I'll certainly consider Bergstrom AFB, was not initially on the plans...but, since I will include KHRL Army Field and Laredo AFB...I'm sure something can be done.

-Scholes Airport....looking into images on google, seems that it hasn't changed in many years, passenger terminal has that "late 50's" shape...so I'll consider it also.

Check your charts, for KABI you're showing KDYS, Dyess AFB a totally different configuration. ABI is on the SE side of town vice DYS on the NE. The current Abilene regional airport opened in 1953.

This project has a good advance...expecting to complete it before christmas.....I hope so.....I'll keep you all updated on this thread with screenshots and questions.

Is that Trans-Texas paint for the stock DC-3?

Yes, that's TTA paint by Gary Harper for the stock DC-3 , it's at flightsim.com...just search for "DC-3" "Trans Texas"

there is another one made by Dave McQueen for the MAAM-SIM, a later version with "Fly TTA" instead of "Trans Texas Airways" on the fuselage

Sorry to keep you guys looking at this every day, but the best way to get into a place is asking

does anyone has pics of KCRP passenger terminal?....

this is the only one I have found...

as you can see, terminal building is far on the shot and it's not clear at all, but something tells me it was "glassy" type ...not sure about roof shape.

Yes, it appears to be a square glass box with one of those scalloped roofs very common back then:



Look at our Oakland CA and Monroe LA terminals for examples.
