Hi,
It has been decided to end development of the alternate Starliner FDE at version 1.1, at least for the foreseeable future. Having two FDE's and panels for the plane is causing confusion for many users.

Hi,
this is answering a question that I was just about to ask.
Yes, I agree, the use of 2 different FDEs is a bit confusing. Personally, I would have preferred an upgrade of the FsAviator version, and I think that the majority of the users here installed that FDE version once it was available.
However, it might be a wise choice to wait a bit and see whether any issues come up in the near future that require fixing anyway, before any major surgery is considered. Obviously, I haven't given up hoping for a Ver. 2.0 adaption.
Tom, what do you think - would it be feasible to replace the gauges in the VC with the corresponding gauges in the alternate FDE, as well as replacing the .air file and the aircraft.cfg content?
Best regards, Volker

This point came up in a PM:
Answer: edit the panel.cfg and comment out the following lines thus:
// gauge40=FD_Test!GroundRoll, 10,400,100,100 // gauge41=FD_Test!Pitch, 10,300,100,95

Hi, The taxi light would shine in the pushback truck drivers eyes. BTW, in the future can you resize your images to 800 pixels wide? Thanks. Volker, you can certainly try that, but the new panel might be hiding some things we don't know about (i.e. controlling mixture, drag, etc.) so it might not fly right. Be sure to use AutoMixture at least. Just have to try it... Thanks for that; I wondered if there was a way to get rid of those gauges from the main panel, but I guess not. That Eastern is one beautiful ship - too bad they didn't buy any (but they had no routes long enough to need it).

First and foremost, very many thanks to Manfred and team. This is by far the very best VC propliner. In fact you have persuaded this dedictated 2D flyer at long last to attempt VC flight!
A number of observations and a question.
1. I also get the "black box" over part of the autopilot although I am on FS2004, not FSX. Actually I've substituted Tom's "KMTG AP New" as I like the turn knob ( it lets you simply orbit whilst you make a coffee) and its more 50's style. I thought this might be the cause but seemingly not.
2. I don't think an alternative FDE is needed this time. I certainly wasn't happy with the original 1.1 but apart from still a very slight tendency to float before touchdown, this V2 is a massive improvement and a pleasure to fly. As someone else mentioned, there now seems to be perhaps excessive drag with the gear down on the glidepath but it's easily handled. Particularly impressive is the almost complete absence of trim change when selecting full flap, which used to be quite a challenge.
3. As well as the AP, I've moved Tom's Starliner Calclassic gauge file into the panel folder and used his twin RMI's. On the VC panel the second RMI replaces the existing OBS, which you then have to find a corner for.
And two questions.
4. Is there a keyboard based sequence for the proper 3/4/2/1 engine start? The usual E+3 then Ctrl+3 and so on doesn't seem to work, at least not consistently. Maybe I've missed something. I like to start engines on the external VC views.
5. Do we have to assume that Jean's method of making the VC cockpit lighter is a dead duck for FS2004 users?
Bill
PS - Tom, I have to confess to having also edited your RMI's so that now one is the twin VOR's and the other the twin ADF's. They are so much less confusing to work with. You can put suitable labels either on the panel or the gauge face. I'm sure others would appreciate this option. Isn't this how the real thing would be?

Jean's method works in my fs2004. I added his line to my cfg and it works fine. I also // out the smoke effects since I don't ever use them.

Hi,
Re: the RMI: As I remember, the real thing is often quite flexible, with switches on the radio panel assigning any of the 4 radios to any of the 4 needles. It varies by installation (i.e. by airline) though. Dual RMI's were only common in propliners from the very late 1950's on, so there isn't a lot of information...

Just for clarification on the black "windows" infront of the AP buttons...I am using the Starliner in FS9 and not in FSX. The speed reduction is on descent...but before gear deployment. I will try to fly a few more test circuits to get more precise data. Basically as long as I am in level flight at a given MP and prop setting the KIAS will eventually stabilize at a given value, 200kts for example. From there without changes in MP or RPM I select a lower altitude in the AP command and she starts to descent at 700ft/min and the KIAS decreases to roughly 160-150kts. This is before gear or flap extension. So if anything there should be a slight increase in KIAS. The airplane in this particular flight was extremely light, possibly even too light for an accurate evaluation of the flight model. The only reason I mentioned it was because it was such a great difference to the 1.1 version with the FSAviator FDE. She is an absolute dream to fly even with this small quirk...which is really all it is Bill can you do the engine start from the FE panel using the buttons and selector switches The one thing that usually hangs my engine starts is if the throttles are not set to 9% ...or if they drift from there due to controller jitter. The other is that I forget to set the toggle switch on the Props sub-panel for ignition timing to "retarded" As long as I do that and prime the engines with a few shots they normally fire just fine. Finally Jean...that Eastern Paint is really terrific. I would not mind adding those colors to my hangar.

Hi sunny I to get black boxes over the autopilot and nav radios in the vc it seems this problem doesn't only happen in fsx though I have both fs9 and fsx and its the same in both also i noticed the slowing in the descent , but what a work of art this plane is rgds Edd

Hi Manfred! really awsome bird here!, super smooth VC gauges! which I like so much,. As for the black windows that appear in the AP & COM gauges, it happens to me when I use the DME & locking to a VOR station, but when I turn off the DME & then switch the panel lights on & of it goes away, so not using the DME for now thanks for putting in the nose view (when eyepoint is too high you see it) & wing view,. really really great! not a bath tub type VC ;D I love flying it, hope you keep updating it, it's really good
