Jean: Neat trick that, using the smokesystem for lighting up the VC.
Bernardo: Re missing voices ... I have FSX SP2 on Windows XP, and the voices are audible OK. Hard to believe that Vista should make a difference but you never know. Stoopid question, when you click one of the wav files in your browser do you hear anything?
Re speedbrakes: As Tom says. The rationale is, the speedbrake -- to be used only as an emergency device -- drops the main gear at relatively high speed, it cannot retract it. You have to wait until you have slowed down to gear-operating speed and then use the gear command. That's the way it worked in the Starliner.
I am afraid other FSX users will encounter that, too. That is one of the FSX display oddities that we are grappling with, without have found a cause or a cure.
I think that observation is correct, and we need to address it, or perhaps FSAviator will...
All I can think of (short of implementing a genuine volume knob, which would be in Hansjoerg's province) is to use a free audio editor such as Audacity and reduce the volume of the wav files that way.

One thing with the real world that I've never been able to see replicated is the descent phase. I tried it with the CV-240 and found it lacking as I did with the CV-580. In theory, the "3 inches per minute" should never be a factor when flying them with the procedures used today (1100HP cruise in the 240, book cruise on the 580). Once you make your initial power reduction for the descent, you should be able to carry that power all the way until you pull the power off to land. In the sim, I've never been able to do that because the planes are just too "slick". The same should be true with the Connies. From ECON cruise, there should be little to no addtional reductions in power after the first reduction. If there is, then either the profile is being flown wrong or the model is wrong.

Hi Mjahn: Thanks for replying, I see you've been bombarded with all kinds of questions already, I guess it just shows the appreciation of people anting this wonderful addon to work. To answer you question, above, when I click on the sound files on my browser they are audiable...And then it continues with the whole list...Excuse my dumbness and lack of understanding instructions, This set of wav files contained in the addonVCON 30 folder go where; I don't quite understand point (4) of the instructions? Should the files be opened? i.e. all the wavs have to be copied??? ...And another question the consol with the lights i.e. Landing nav. taxi be active with the mouse; They're not with mine

I too want to thank the team that made this wonderfull aircraft come alive. The call outs work for me in FSX but I can not mute them. Like Bernardo that console does not work with mouse. My guess is that it is an FSX VC issue.
Thanks Again for the Awesome Plane Randy

Bernardo: The AddonVNCON30 folder should be a subfolder within FSX\Sound ( you haven't been and copied them to FS9\Sound, have you -- that's for FS9 users...) and in that folder should be all the wavs supplied in the zip. No need to copy individual files, of course - copying the whole AddonVNCON30 folder from the zip to FSX\Sound should do the trick.
Edit, also try this: In FSX, with the Connie loaded, try changing the view mode and eventually settle on VC mode, then try operating the flaps again.
Yes, I am afraid that is an FSX issue. The side panel VC switches don't work in my setup either and they have no tooltips. Luckily you can right-click the checkmark simicon, which opens the status window, and on that you can toggle the MUTE setting. As for operating the light switches individually go to the 2D panel where you have a row of clickable switches at the top of the screen.
Sorry about that, folks. I fear nothing short of creating a native FSX model will get rid of all the FSX-related bugs that are pestering us at present. And the odd thing is, as soon as one goes away, another rears its ugly head...

A quick question regarding the new vc lighting. I've updated my aircraft.cfg per the instructions; verified that the fx file exists in the Effects folder; but when I select the "I" key (smoke system) I see no difference in the vc lighting. I'm sure I must be missing something obvious. Any ideas?
Thanks, Brian

Hi,
Did you inactivate the original Smoke System section by putting // in front of each line?
Edit - this doesn't work for me, for apparently two reasons:
1. The panel gauges control the smoke system, not the I key 2. Even when I trigger the smoke system by dumping fuel, I get no light in the VC...
Might this be an FSX-only thing?

Actually I removed the previous entries completely. The smoke system entries now reads...
[smokesystem] smoke.0 = -0.9, -1.35, 2.95, fx_vclighth //Add vc lights for day use
I also doublechecked to make sure there wasn't a duplicate smoke system section in the aircraft.cfg. Weird. ;D

I'm running FS2004 but was not using the panel gauges to control the fuel dump/smoke system. (slaps self on head). I'll use the panel gauges now. Thanks for the help Tom. Brian

Mjahn: Yes I have it as a subfolder, it placed itself at the top...And still no calls? They do sound when I open the file and play them from the desktop...Squeaky brakes work, I can definetely hear those, so I've done something right. I even open the file and copied the entire contents to the FSX sound folder and...Still no calls I did put in the red line in the aircraft.cfg for better lighting of the v/c during daytime flight. That's a must. I just finished installing all my available textures and the Air France one is superb! And I'm being careful with the air brakes. And now understand how they work. Even though to pull them back in I have to lower the landing gears and then retract them. This is all so exiting I'ver been at it since 9.00am. ( yes, I did take my dog for a walk) ;D

This aircraft is awsome, thank you all very much. Question,I have added the other textures,Alaska Air,Air France, ect, and I cannot get the vurtual cockpit to show up, I get the partial vc that we had with the other Connie. I know there is an entery you must put in the addons config file, can anyone shed some light on this subject for me? I thank you inadvance.

Hi nastymasty,
Just copy from texture.N7307C the following bitmaps into the existing texture folders:
floor_2.bmp, propdisk.bmp (replacing the existing one), shade_01.bmp, vc01.bmp, vc01_l.bmp, vc01a_l.bmp, vc02.bmp, vc02_l.bmp, vc03.bmp, vc03_l.bmp, vc04.bmp, vc04_l.bmp, vc05.bmp, vc05_l.bmp, vc06.bmp, vc06_l.bmp
That's all. Good luck.
Cheers, Maarten

Am just as flummoxed (word?) as you are. Try cycling thru all the view modes one by one, operating the flaps each time. If nothing happens give it a thinking break for a while. Too bad if we can't make this work for you because these two pilot guys are really and truly the bees knees.
