Sorry you can't make it work. I'll give it a try and let you know. I've created a Web based tutorial with more pictures (still need more though). It's available here: www.calclassic.com/sketchup_tutorial.htmHope this helps,

Tom, No worries. If I can't get things to compile right...I'll just send them all to you to compile for me. I'll flood your e-mail with a torrent of buildings, ground equipment, trees, and other nonsense until it crashes. You don't mind. Right? Al

Tom, Success!!! Thanks to your HTML tutorial, I fixed my problem. I was looking at your screen shots of LibraryCreatorXML and realized that I had the wrong version. I was using 1.1...or something like that. And now... I think I like SketchUp. Al

WOW. This is a cool tool. I dont think I will be using it personally, as repaints are kind of my contribution... but I will absolutely enjoy some scenery made this way! (nice to see my eastern livery a above :-)
Keep going guys!

Don't you just hate it when you're trying to take a picture of a terminal, and some beauty queen taxies right in front of you? ;D
(BTW, stellar Connie. I've logged many miles with her.)

If I could ever figure out how to place windows, I could probably really use that.

Yea, you've got it! Luckily I had to go to the dentist, and thus you had time to fix it yourself. Looks like in many cases it would not even be necessary to use textures at all - that main building looks just fine. Probably turns black in FSX though. Looking forward to your creations. Pung, how do you mean that? Do you mean you need to learn how to place window rectangles into your building in nice straight rows? Looks like Al has that technique down - how did you do that Al? Hope this helps,

pung, There's several different ways to do it. The easiest is to draw a rectangle on the surface of your structure, then apply a texture to that rectangle of the window you want. But if you want transparent windows, here's one way to do it (there's numerous different ways)... I'll assume you've listened to the basic videos before trying this. 1) Make a building 2) Use the Tape Measure to define the first corner of the glass of your window. 3) Use the Rectangle tool to shape the window. 4) Use the tape measure again to define the window panes. My window will have two vertical panes, with a 0.5' frame between them. 5) Use the Rectangle tool again to draw the window panes. Start at one corner of the rectangle you already have and draw diagonally until reaching the intersection of the opposite edge and the tape measure line (you should see a red x). 6) Delete the edges of your original rectangle that cross the center frame. 7) Apply a transparent texture to the panes of glass using the Paint Bucket tool...and you're done! This picture shows reference lines I added if you want to add an exterior frame of some sort. With windows, the trick may be to draw the panes of glass, not the frames. At least, that's what my two days of experience tells me! The nice thing is that this can be accomplished almost as fast as you can read it, once you get some practice. With a little dressing up, you get this... Hope this helps. Al

Tom, Forget the e-mail I sent you late last night. I fixed it. Important tip for everyone: if you include any spaces in the name of your file in ModelConverterX (which Tom's directions VERY clearly warn against...oops), you will get error messages returned that won't clear even if you select "Ignore Warnings." I'd recommend starting by saving your SketchUp files with no spaces to begin with, so as to prevent spaces creeping in later. Lesson learned Al

Hi Al,
Glad you got it working again!
Yep, that bit me too (you know where) when I was using MCX only last week. Arno had to remind me about that, and I made sure I put it into the tutorial just because of that incident.
Onward and upward,

Tom,
Do you have some ideas for common mistakes that will cause textures to not show up on an object in FS? I've tried several times putting textures on the MIA terminal. They show up in SketchUp and in ModelConverterX, but not in FS. I've followed your tutorial as close as possible, with no luck. One is a default FS roof texture, so I'm pretty sure it's not a formatting problem.
The good news is that the terminal is coming along nicely. I spent the evening adding the northern two concourses (Eastern's), and details (windows, railings, doors, etc). It's coming along quite nicely.
I'm leaving on a 4-day trip tomorrow morning, so I might not reply right away. Thanks!
Al
