In my experience, 8 bit BMP files (256 colors) also work fine in FSX. You cannot use 24 bit (millions of colors) BMP's though. You must either convert them to 8 bit or to DXT1.

Hi all,
Note that there is a bug in MCX that will give textures the extension .dxtbmp if you convert textures to the DXTBMP format. This will be fixed in the development release tomorrow. For now just rename them to .bmp, in both the filename and the MCX Materials.
