As a fs2004 user, I am extremely jealous. I'm like a kid in a candy store, look but don't touch.

As a fs2004 user, I am extremely jealous. I'm like a kid in a candy store, look but don't touch. If someone volunteer to do an invisible airport and trafic e.g. for New York, San Francisco or Buenos Aires and would share it I would gladly provide some GMAX models for conversion to FS2004 but I cannot take on the project myself. I will now focus on getting both my modern and classic package converted to MSFS2020 and next there will be a 1980 package.

Henrik, I love the sound of 80s package...:-) That one is easily done - i guess it would already now have 300 models between the classics which where still in service in the early eigthies and ships built in the seventies and eighties and already included... I just have a couple of models i really want to include because they were the ones which visited my local harbor when i was a kid...

Hi,
It should actually be possible to convert these models to FS3004 format using ModelConverterX, assuming they have no animations. That might be easier than converting GMAX models, which would need to have all new materials (texture applications) created for them (not the textures themselves, those should just be converted from DDS to BMP). I've never tried an FSX to FS9 scenery object conversion, but that's my impression.

Creating AI ship traffic for FS9 wouldn't be a problem. But be aware that FS9 oceans aren't completely flat. Even near coasts. Once I tried to add a traffic from New York Harbor along Long Island coast but I miserably failed. At least it would be possible to add some AI traffic in harbors, bays or smaller sounds. Anyway, it could be a nice challenge.

Bernard, if you want to take up the challenge and try to do it I can pass you the models to make a traffic in and out of a harbor with a number of cargo and passenger ships plus tugs.
Tom, the models do have animations (radars and for the Liberty's a turning screw) but it won't take many seconds to remove them.

That might be quite possible, Henrik. Maybe the right choice from which harbors the ships should sail out could be more tricky. As people probably use different kind of sceneries for the same town. Either default or third party. Finally the choice has to comply with the models you will able to provide and the places where they mostly moored.

The animations would not need to be removed from the GMAX model, just converted to Tick18 from Ambient.
Actually if needed MCX can remove the animations as well, so that's not a problem (since they are not critical to the ship's appearance). I don't know if MCX can keep those animations (replacing Ambient with Tick18 for FS9), but that might also be possible.

I converted quickly, several models of of the great and wonderfull packs made by Henrik.
The speed way, is ModelconverterX, to Collada, and Collada (.DAE) to FS91 scenery object (all the process is made by ModelconverterX)
(textures must be saved as DXTBMP), i not remember to have problems with animations (but they are gone in final model)
but i use only as statics, on RDP_II and RDP_III projects
