Henrik, I love the sound of 80s package...:-) That one is easily done - i guess it would already now have 300 models between the classics which where still in service in the early eigthies and ships built in the seventies and eighties and already included... I just have a couple of models i really want to include because they were the ones which visited my local harbor when i was a kid... An 80s package would be super. I've taken a bit of a rest from 50s-60s flying and enjoyed some 80s flying of late, so while I found your classic package already more than adequate for that period, a slightly modernized 80s pack would definitely fit the bill for those times when I want to fly "in my own lifetime", as it were. Not to diminish with whatever modifications are needed for static FS9 bgls - but I'm thrilled to having these lovely sailing (moving) AI all throughout my P3D sim. With water colour and effects better than either FSX or FS9, the over-water experience is just super, and period-era AI shipping really adds to the enjoyment for guys like me who spend most of their time flying along or across coasts as part of carrier naval aviation simulation. So a huge thanks, Henrik - you've done great work thus far, and appreciate your recent focus on retro periods. Which reminds me, I haven't flown out of Bernie's splendid Cape Canaveral for a few weeks - shame on me. That'll scratch both the NASA itch and (I suspect) some more classic ship sightseeing itch all at once. cheers, dl

Am I alone in being unable to get these ships to show? Until I installed them, I was using FS9 format flight plans, which never gave a problem despite all the suggestions that they would. The modern-day boats and ships showed fine. After installation of this package, I converted all my custom flight plans to FSX format using FP_FS9_FSX.zip from aifs2.pvdveen.net/?page_id=33 . I preferred this over other utilities that claim to do the job because I have found the others gleefully delete legs out of your flight plan if they don't like them - like legs to add-on airports that don't exist in the default FSX (of which we have many in our historic world!).. But it seems that these generated flight plans are not in true FSX format - remove all my AI flights and the ships appear! Does anybody have any suggestions for a reliable FS9 to FSX conversion? John

Are you sure you got every one? Even one left behind will suppress the FSX traffic files. AI Flight Planner has a search function to find FS9 files, I think?

Are you sure you got every one? Even one left behind will suppress the FSX traffic files. AI Flight Planner has a search function to find FS9 files, I think? Certain! Because everything works when I remove my AI aircraft BGLs. (I spent several hours idsabling sceneries to prove that before I twigged it was the AI I needed to disable to make the ships work! If only I had known of that feature of AI Flight Planner). I am at this very moment conducting an experiment with generating BGLs using AI Flight Planner and it looks like a successful result! Much more generating to do of course (and not much more play-time for me today) but I will report back once completed. John

Have you tried removing each AI aircraft traffic BGL file one at a time and then trying it? Maybe only one or two are doing it?

Unfortunately I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to problem-solving and I frequently have to remind myself that this game is for pleasure rather than for tearing one's hair out! I have regenerated all my commercial flight plans through AI Flight Planner and it has taken ages to analyse the errors it gives off. A few errors are genuine, and useful, but many are white elephants. For instance, it doesn't recognise accented characters and reports aircraft titles like "AI DC-4 Air Algérie" as missing aircraft when they are not, and it also seems to read commented-out lines and is thus reporting duplicate and missing aircraft that it should simply be ignoring. It also tells me many of my legs are too long (I'm not a centipede!) but I suspect that is though a difference of time zones in FS9 and FSX. I don't rate that as a serious issue as long as it hasn't deleted those legs altogether. So it is clear that the other utility I was using was producing files that FSX didn't recognise as FSX flight plans. So be it. Both utilities are free, so one shouldn't complain if they aren't perfect. But I am having to completely change the way I create and update my flight plans.
As I say, the commercial flights now work alongside the ships and all display correctly. However, my period GA flight plans (generated using GA Generator) won't even load into AI Flight Planner at the moment, but that's for another day. Now its time to fly, methinks.

Just to confirm I now have this all sorted.
AI Flight Planner still refuses to load my GA flight plans from the text files - they have about 19,000 flights in there and I guess it has never been tested with large files like that. But it will load them by opening a BGL so the solution was to either generate them as FS9 plans with TTools and then import the BGL or generate them with FP_FS9_FSX and import the BGL. Then regenerating them with AI Flight Planner does the trick!
The question mark over FP_FS9_FSX generating the FPs in the proper format is accentuated by AI Flight Planner putting up a message - "this FP appears to have been generated by FP_FS9_FSX, is this correct" so perhaps I am not the only one to smell a rat.
Anyway, all ships now present and correct and how lovely they look.
Many thanks.

I have discovered another quirk with AI Flight Planner, it silently discards flights to airports that have the ICAO in lower case. In the past I always indicated certain airports in lower case for a specific reason. How I wish for something like Traffic Tools for FSX that just does what it should without messing with your work!

I avoid it for it’s tendency to delete things too. I use AI Traffic Mover 2, which doesn’t do that but it only works with FS2004 files. Then I use a simple FSX converter if needed.

Thanks, Tom.
Just out of interest, which "simple FSX converter" do you use? I have tried four so far, and haven't found one that I am completely happy with.
Best regards,
John

I’ve used AIFPC for the most part.
